Sager is Flaky

Thread Starter
I just wanted to follow up and try to warn people about not buying Sager computers.I have owned 5-6 notebooks and NEVER had one fail after just a year and certainly not because of a motherboard failure. My guess is Sager is running some kind of scam involving cheap parts etc. I am not even going to contact them. I am filing a criminal complaint with the City of Industry attorney and the Ca Attorney General. So to anyone who is considering buying a Sager Don't they are junk and do not stand behind what they sell.If you look at all the complaints about them and the coincidence of motherboards failing just after the 1yr warranty it's clear they are a bogus operation.

Rand, so you joined here just to start trouble? This is a useless thread and offers nothing productive. Hopefully an admin will delete it quickly.

Agreed. Every one of your posts involves flames at Sager. I've had nothing but good experiences from them. When my motherboard failed (due to little brother abusing my computer, not Sager's fault) the problem was very quickly and smoothly resolved and my computer has been chugging along nicely since.

well i am little in doubts too. i wanted to buy sager 5760, but i see that they are breaking too fast to be true.. its ok if i had some close sager repair store, but since i need to ship it with my money to them to repair i just cannot risk this.. too expensive..

so i guess since i have dell repair local store behind the corner, i am thinking in som dells again.. it is very sad that sager is not all over the world yet.

It seems unusual that a guy would join the forums to trash talk a specific company for viral marketing purposes since he hasn't specifically endorsed a competing brand. But the few posts he's made, while all negative and directed at slamming Sager as a brand name, do not offer consistent experience and seem random.

It could be that he's just a consumer who had a bad experience and now wants to try to get even with Sager by exaggerating the negative aspects of his experience. In which case he will buy a new laptop from a different brand and eventually just fade away from here. Either way nothing useful is offered by this attitude.

Randcool....if you truly had a bad experience you should post it honestly and objectively just once and offer suggestions for the vendor and manufacturer to improve the situation and at least attempt to win back your business or try to avoid making the same mistakes with others. That may be helpful but randomly slamming the brand because you believe you were somehow wronged isn't helpful to anyone.

As they say, sometimes 5h17 just happens.

I've had 2 Sager and have been very reliable for me. My NP4780 is 4 years old and is running fine and is running Vista Ultimate. I know people that have had Dells, Toshiba's , Acer's with less luck than I've had with my Sagers.

Melting motherboards are an issue with every brand that makes high-performance laptops or laptops that just plain run hot. Yeah, it's hard to engineer an efficient cooling system, and many people do not know how important it is to monitor their laptop's temperatures and note early warnings of hardware failure. Sager notebooks (specific models) have had quite a few documented problems, and many people have gotten "lemon" computers. But the nature of your post tells me you did not do all you could to catch any symptoms which could have surfaced during your warranty. Not saying I suspect you killed your computer, although it does happen QUITE often, but if you tell me your laptop one day just stopped working, without prior warning, I wouldn't believe you.

I have learned that it is not common knowledge that people need to maintain their laptops (beyond the usual software maintenance). But then again, I know people who have never popped the hood of their own car, so maybe it's not an isolated issue.

Did their warranty imply life time repairs? Your computer died just like thousands of others from hundreds of MFGs. . .obviosly they all suck and use shotty parts to scam people. IMHO stick to pen and paper. It doesnt overheat, very durable, and only the best parts are used.

Though i am currently starting a class action lawsuit against BIC, my pen ran out of ink after 1 year and 2 weeks. Of all the nerve.

Hi,

I had a few problems with my Sager about a year after I bought it, but the problems were resolved fairly quickly. Their customer service was on top of it. A few months later, I decided to upgrade my motherboard and video card to the newer model, and the turn around time was right around two weeks. It has been running beautifully.

I can't compare it to any other laptop company, because I've never had a problem with any laptop I've had. I baby them, which might be one reason. Sager is the only experience I've ever had, and I've been happy with the experience. I've heard about other companies' awful customer service, so I had prepared for it. Luckily, that wasn't necessary.

randcool, I'm thinking you probably don't even own one.

One of the things I don't think enough people do is keep an eye on temps. I can't tell you how many times I read threads here about a laptop becoming unstable, then it progresses to random shutdowns and then it ultimately dies.

When things start to become unstable you have to address the problem right away. Monitor the temps closely... if they are high take the machine apart and clean it out. Check if you're blocking the fan exhaust. Reapply thermal grease. I think people wait to long and the motherboard is damaged from excessive temperatures.

Sager tech is prompt and good. I have had 3 Sagers and have been very happy.

Claiming scam based on a personal problem, deciding they are a one man operation based on a phone call, who would pay attention to such unfounded accusations.

Perhaps Dell does not even need a service department because nothing ever fails ... do you suppose?

I actually had to stop by their building to get my first problem resolved. From what I saw there, I was definately not impressed. Stop by if your in the area and you will see what I mean.

LOL I had the pleasure of visiting their office in the City of Industry. It was nestled among hundreds of warehouse types buildings in the heart of the industrial district. In their warehouse area I saw lines of sager notebook carcasses, which was quite freaky. It was where Sager notebooks, especially the 8790 line, went to get their "motherboard replaced".

What struck me the most was in the office building this asian big boss type was chain smoking cigarettes in his office, in plain view, in the year 2004.

My gfs 8790 has been on its last legs for the better part of 2 years. Her graphics settings are turned way down so she doesn't get artifacts during normal operation. I believe the 8790's had woefully inadequate cooling for the GPU, causing the vid memory to be irrevocably damaged. SHe still loves me though despite bad laptop advice given to her by me.

I've had my Sager 8890 since it originally released. Other than needing a new battery, it works just as good as the day I received it.
