Bad 8890 AC Adapter or What?

My 8890 isn't booting up. I've been having problems with this for months, and it's getting worse.

At first when I pressed the power button with the AC adapter plugged in the notebook wouldn't start. I had to unplug the AC adapter from the power strip and then press power so it would start on the battery. Then I would plug the AC adapter back in and it was OK.

Now, that isn't even working anymore. When the AC adapter isn't powered, the power and battery LEDs turn off. When I plug it back in, I'd get an orange and orange LED first and then the battery LED would turn green. When I press power, both LEDs turn off and I hear high pitch sounds coming from the AC Adapter. If I hold the power button down, the AC adapter sounds like a car turning.

But now, as I was writing the above paragraph and pressed power, the notebook started up with a green LED and orange LED.

Did anyone have this problem before? Is it the AC adapter or the battery or something else?

I'm waiting for the laptop to turn on again. This time the first two LEDs are orange and the second LED goes off once in a while.
