help: down-grade from Vista to XP?

Hello friends at NotebookForums, today I went to BestBuy and got a ACER 5100 for $550 (including tax). I had just set it up with Vista running and no problem so far, however I found out the game World of Warcraft wont work on the machine, I can start the game, but it's to slow to make the game playable. I think it would be better for me to run winxp on the machine now...so it the machine compatible with winxp? can I just insert my winxp disk and de-grade to winxp? if not, is there anything I can do to speed it up a little bit? (without upgrading the 512 memory that is)

thanks, any help would be apreciated

With 512mb of memory I'm surprised Vista even works...

But if you're not willing to spend 25 bux on memory, then just simply reformat and install XP, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to do that.

If he doesn't have XP on a CD then he'll be spending even more on that then he would to simply bump up the memory. (Here's a prime example of a cheap laptop sold for improper usage to a customer.) Hell, I'll bet the video card it in won't even run WOW well.

BTW vehence, did you tell the sales person you planned on playing WOW on the laptop? If so and he still sold you this you seriously need to go and complain to his/her manager. That sales rep is an idiot if he thinks otherwise.

first of all thanks for the reply, and i didnt tell the sales I was gonna use for WoW. well WoW isnt the main reason I got this laptop, is more for work/study, but I want it to be able to run wow, just run it- playable on lowest setting is fine with me.

So I guess I can either upgrade the memory, or install xp? what would be a better option? (I do have xp disks)
If upgrading memory is better, then what kind of memory I should get? 2x512? 1x1gig? or take off 1x 256, and put in 1x 512 is enough? all I need is for it to run wow smooth on lowest setting. also if upgrade memory is my best option, do i need to upgrade anything else?

btw it has a raedon xpress 1100 vid card, I think it should be enough to run wow on loweste setting.

thanks

EDIT: does some one know for SURE i can de-grade to winxp? because that sale at BB said I cant to do

YES, any computer can run any existing OS you want, from vista, xp, 2000, 98, 95, linux, ubuntu, Mac OS. That guy is just lying to u. If you have the xp disk, you just format the drive and install XP. I have the same gpu as you, and with 1gb in XP I was running Wow at max resolution smoothly.

If your machine came with Vista it won't have the XP drivers and some devices may not work without those drivers. You can download XP drivers from the company website.
