Hey all.

I saw the new asus w1000N notebook was presented at cebit 2004..

A few days later I searched the net see ANY information about the price and when you could buy the machine..

I found a firm on the net who showed the machine and contacted them..
http://www.lapxpress.de/index.htm

Unfortunately they could not come up with a price and said it would be avaible this summer...

Anyone know any information on the price/arival date??

I want to buy a notebook soon and have been looking alot for the right model..

The asus m6800n P4 M 1.4 ghz, 512 mb ram, 60 gb 5400 rpm harddrive and 15,4 wsxga would be the choice if a was buying todaý..

Do you think it will be a good idea to wait for the w1000N?? The only difference between the models is the option of better screen.

+: subwoofer, tv-tuner, remote, wglan 802.g -: 3.2 kg weight

Missed something?

Any other suggestions for a notebook that compares with m6800n??

Regards Michael

W1000n is a major disappointment (at least to me). Price should range from 2000 - 2500 euros + taxes.

Note on the infos you quoted:

m6800n has Pentium M (centrino) and no pentium 4m, and the screen is indeed NOT WSXGA. On 6800n screen is SXGA (normal aspect ratio: not wide) with a resolution of 1400x1050. On 6700n is Wxga (wide) with a resolution of 1280x800. THERE'S NO WSXGA OPTION AVAILABLE (it's listed on the web site, but not available for purchase at this time.. it might be later this year)
If you want my personal opinion:
WANT a WIDE screen? Don't go ASUS unless you are comfortable with 1280x800 res.
WANT a normal screen? Go for m6800n Deluxe with 15.1 SXGA screen (but beware of the lighting issues already discussed in this forum)
My view of the w1000n: TOO LITTLE TOO LATE.

Hey anacardo.

Thanks for the reply..

I am confused with the xga,sxga,sxga+,wsxga.... terminology and you are right about the wxga..

Are sxga the same as sxga+ because the retailers dont know the terminology either?

I have also looked in several stores showing a huge variety in which screen they use..

And why is w1000N disappointing?

SXGA is 1280x1024, SXGA+ is 1400x1050. SXGA is very rare because it is a 5:4 screen rather than a 4:3 screen. Most of the time a retailer meant to say SXGA+, and may erroneously say SXGA because they are not famaliar with the terminology. Always check for the actual resolution instead of depending on the term used.
