Stalker and Campfires

If I run with either Object Dynamic Lighting or Full Dynamic Lighting, I can get a very playable game......Until I approach a campfire. Then it Stutters very bad. If I turn the Lighting distance down to the lowest setting then It won't stutter until I get very close. I am running Mobileforce 97.92 m4. Static lighting fixes this completely. Any Ideas?

Could it be your overclock? STALKER with dynamic lighting extremely stresses video hardware.

Yeah, high end visual effects make the graphics card work harder. In very intense moments the frame rate can drop dramatically. You will find this for any game, though to what extent depends on how well and how realistically the effects have been implemented...

It seems others have this problem too.

I set my clocks back down and the issue is still there. It does appear changing the Frames ahead 0ption affects campfires somewhat... Oblivion never stresses near fires / torches.. not sure what is going on.. My temps are doing fine . I use ikfangui (spelling?), It could just be the game but who knows. LOL...

Yes, it definitely could be the game. But I haven't had any noticeable issues with my FX2500M @ stock clocks (1024x768/full dynamic lights/everything on max sans grass shadows). And your system should be actually faster than mine...

Your running at 1024x768 vs his, which he hasnt stated, but i would bet its 1920x1200, which is 3 times the pixels needed to be processed.

I am running at 1440 x 900 ( I didn't upgrade the screen at build ---ran out of money) I will try lowering the resolution and see if that helps. Its not a game killer, I am still enjoying the game very very much. I even stopped playing C&C 3 for now... lol

All the same, 1440x900 is still almost twice the pixels. It doesnt seem that STALKER is a very well coded game either.

im geting decent frames with my 9300 7800gtx on 1440x900res and full lighting and the sliders in the middle.

seems like theresa bug in the settings because when i first got the game it whould play smooth with lighting.

so i put everything down and put lighting on full and than slowly put the settings up and and it still was pretty smooth.

so i kepted it at 1440x900 full lighting and everything in the middle but have draw distance on full and its very playable

try what i said on top because the 7900gs should be faster than my 7800gtx right?

Buggy - yes. But performance-wise, it's actually quite good, imo. It has (what appears to be) soft shadows, self-shadows, dynamic lights, and huge amount of unique (not instanced) geometry. FEAR with soft shadows, for example, would require similar hardware and resolution settings. And F.E.A.R. is mostly a corridor shooter, without vast open areas of STALKER. For high resolutions and/or older video cards, there's always the static lighting mode, which is very fast.
Of course, I don't mean to imply that STALKER cannot be further optimized

Kinda hard to beleive its not perfect after so much time in developement.

Hard to beleive it's still an excellent game after so much time in developement

2nissanztt90: Ever seen a perfect games? or a perfect piece of software in general?
As far as games id have to say Source/HL2 is pretty damn solid, althought a bit older. I think though that no piece of software could ever be perfect since technology changes so fast but if you compare games to other games that *appear* to have similar graphics, one may run better than the other, which could be attributed to the coding. Again, thats a loose phrase considering its mostly based on the opinion of who thinks what game looks better/runs better, for example, i dont think Oblivion(minus the tweaks that can be done) runs that great for how it looks compared to STALKER. Meaning that Oblivion and STALKER appear to run about the same to me, but STALKER looks better to me. STALKER definitely runs alright, it just could be better (what game cant though haha), although i think dynamic lighting is a bit much for non DX10 GPUs at the moment, but then again, thats my opinion.

I guess a program can really only be coded "perfectly" for a specific piece of hardware which is quite obviously not feasible.

I don't think you can really get a perfect piece of software. The more bugs you find and fix the longer it takes to find the next ones, exponentially if you like (although the severity decreases). And the longer you take the more outdated the original concept and underlying technology becomes. You have to just choose a point where all critical bugs are fixed and as many others as possible too. Either that or like most developers you get pressurised into releasing before this point and end up having to release far more patches than you should.

Im not really referring to bugs, the game seems to run quite stable, but more so how fast it runs...it doesnt seem optimized to me.

IMO this game ran like crap on my laptop. I dont know wth was going on. Every other game I can run on high just fine, beside FSX but that game has been proven to be full of bugs.
