I' ve tried few different ones, I have "download codec automaticaly" selected, but they just won't play properly. WM treats them as music files. You can hear the music/tone normaly, but there is no picture. Please advise.

Thanks

Try googling "vista codecs installation"
find this package and install it. See if that works.

"AVI"'s merely a container, you have to have the right codec for the specific type of video you're watching. a number of codecs arent available as automatic downloads, you gotta go find them

Oh, I forgot to mention, I've installed it earlier (Vista Codecs V437), but when I tried to play some of the files, I got the message "Windows Media Player has stopped working"... etc. Changing security settings (internet) didn't help.

All files play nicely on my XP computer....

Thanks for any suggestion...

(And yes - I'm quite aware there are different codecs involved - I do video editing myself, and files captured with my camera work fine, those that don't are sent to me by friends or downloaded...)

get the GSpot Codec Appliance and see what the files are specifically encoded in then

When I check properties (on my XP comp) of all files that won't play under Vista, for Video Codec it says: Nero DVD Decoder. Should I install Nero on that comp? It came preloaded wih some other DVD burner software that I haven't tried yet....

Thanks
