m5790: anyone try to update your x1900 drivers? - Page 2

Ohmeye it should be referring to the driver itself.
its very weird that was the only way i got to replicate the issue, other than that if i unzip the drivers before the installation, it will install successfully in any of the two 2 computers and 4 different cards i have try

Same problem again ...

Greetings everyone ! I'm pretty new to the forum, but I'm having the exact same problem. This is REALLY frustrating has there seem to be very small or not support at all about that X1900 ... I mean, what the hell ?!?!? It's was ATI's web site front page for months ! They just forgot to saw "We offert no support to our high end mobile graphics card ..." Anyways, I've experience the same problem after trying to upgrade my display drivers (I got a video card upgrade on my m5750 running Vista Ultimate ...) because of very poor graphics performance (lag in World of Warcraft ... video lag and distortion). Maybe where might be something incompatible between Vista's shitload of extra features (All the extra junk you can install in programs & features ... I've made the error to install them all ...) I have no anti-virus at all, not even spybot ... What's worst is that now I've completery uninstalled all ATI and I can't install display drivers back ! Any idea ?

I feel your pain, I do. Did Alienware send you the 8.31.100.321 drivers with your video card upgrade? The ones on the website don't work, as you've discovered. No matter, I've uploaded the drivers HERE. They're not the most up to date version, but hopefully they'll get you back up and running. Just unzip them to your drive and use Device Manager to install them. Hope this works for you! Good luck to both of us on getting those updates. . .

Fix Found !

This drivers package have the latest version from ATI, they seem to be working perfectly on the X1900 Mobility Download Mobility Radeon X1900 Drivers 8.360.0.0 (Vista 32-bit) with Catalyst 7.4 Here

Excellent!!!

I can't wait to try this when I get home. How did you come by the modded drivers?
Mobility Modder is the key. I wonder how hard is how much would it cost to release the proper drivers for the X1900 with all their highly qualified technician ... hmmmm

YOU modded the drivers?!!! I'm impressed. What exactly do you have to modify to make them work on the mobility card?

How in blazes did you ever decide you could modify drivers? Just yesterday you were seemingly as lost as I was, yet today you become the saviour of all. Isaac: have you taken note? Give this man a job! I want Blingky to head the team in charge of keeping my drivers up to date. Thank you, sir! (words in italics stolen from the greatest American author of all time, Mark Twain)

I was wondering if you could have official Alienware Drivers for my m5750 ... I would really appreciate Thank You !
Blingky, you should be able to use the same link i gave OhmEye, those are drivers for any ATi mobility card from the x1400 to x1900, on the m5550 or m5750/m5790

I'm not sure what's going on, Isaac. When I try to install these drivers I don't get any error messages, but when all is completed neither the drivers not the Catalyst Control Center was successfully installed. I am left with native Windows drivers and resolution. Blingky's drivers bring me back up and running. . . The good news is that Blinkgy's drivers bring my 3DMark06 scores up from 3244 to 3542. That's a 9% improvement. Woot woot!

Greetings everyone, here is my step-by-step tutorial on re-Installing ATI's Video card drivers after a nightmare on updating the OEM drivers for the X1900.

Here is a more detailled post on how I fixed the problem :

After 2-3 hours of research here is what I found :
  • ATI is full of sh***, mainly because they closed down the mobility support page for drivers on Vista instead of investing 500$ (yeah, 500$, just put 1 highly technician at 100$/h for 5 hours and like I did, he will be able to get all the information he needs ...)
  • X1900 are the very same drivers of the X1800.
  • X1900 are the very same drivers has the X1900 mobility (except for some minor changes, nothing that would not allow us to use the Desktop version X1900 drivers)
  • This kind of issue is not related to any ANTI-VIRUS, SPYWARE, whatever software there is or could be ...
  • This kind of issue MIGHT be related to Vista's numerous dumb safety features ... therefor, if you know what you are doing on a computer and doesn't click everywhere like a mad man on the internet I suggest to turn off all that dumb stuff ... less troubles
  • Even when you uninstall stuff, especially drivers, it's not necesserely "clean". You might have to dig futher to make sure there is NOTHING LEFT.
  • Even when there is NOTHING LEFT, Vista has this cool feature that install's whatever it feels like without asking you and without allowing to cancel it, therefor remove any kind of "Standard VGA Adapter" before trying to install anything over it.
Somehow with Vista I fell like going 8 years behind, like in Windows 2000 "good" old time ...

Hi Isaac: I did a fresh install of Vista yesterday and thought I'd try to install these drivers one more time. Same results. While I don't get any error messages nothing gets installed either, except the entry in "programs and Features" in Control Panel. When I go to uninstall it says no programs are installed so nothing to uninstall. Blingky's drivers went right in. Any idea what's going on here? Why is it that my machine doesn't work with Alienware drivers?

OmhEye,

this is extremelly weird the driver should be installing fine in your computer, i just thougth of something not sure if it will actually fix the problem, do you have UAC enable? if so can you disable it? i had a similar problem with a wireless driver, it was stoping the drive to install but the installer never gave me any errors.

Blingky,

we you able to install the driver i posted?

I hear you, Isaac.

UAC is the first thing I trash in a new Vista install. Blingky's drivers went in immediately after I attempted yours. Didn't have to do anything special to make them work: clicked on Setup and they installed themselves smooth as silk. This has really got me scratching my head. . .

I had the same problem when i first got my m5790 and reinstalled xp pro 64. Nothing would install on the x1900 adapter. it was as if the system could not recognize it.
Now i run vista ultimate 64-bit, and unlucky for me there are no vista 64-bit mobility x1900 drivers. There is a work around, so i am ok. You have to manually install the x1900 series driver- literally tell the motherboard what the adapter is.
Sometimes it tries to install the generic adapter string, but once it recognizes the adapte..itll sucessfully install the driver.
