Well here it goes
Thanks in advance for any replies
6 month old HP Pavillion dv6140us,TL-56/2 gigs ram/120 gig wd scorpio drive
I never had a problem until six weeks ago. The hd started locking up, ran a bios self test and the drive reported a fail status.
HP sent me a new figitsu sata drive, it lasted three weeks, same problem, lock ups and a fail status when running bios self test.
Out of pure frustration trying to comunicate with HP support I purchased a 120 WD sata drive from newegg.
The Western digital drive has been in for about three weeks. Two days ago (lockup in windows xp pro)
Had to do a hard boot (locked up again) another hard boot.
Third boot played games and things for over three hours (ran Perfect)
Yesterday (two more lock ups in windows, then everything ran perfect after another two hard boots)
Today (ran a self hd test in bios, quick and comprhensive, passed both) defragged the drive ,ran sisoft sandra and tested everything, mem, motherboard, everything I could think of.Passed all no errors
Then I ran the hd test in sandra, locked up, another hard boot.
Tried to run it again in sandra, locked up
Ran hard drive inspector pro, everything perfect, ran another bios self test and all of hp's online diagnostics as well, no problems,
Any ideas would be very helpfull, ran norton and Windows defender, Nothing, played Unreal 2004 for an hour, no problems,
I dunno
thanks in advance

I have the same model/processor and am currently looking for help with freezing problems that I am having. I had a hard drive die after 3 months, had it replaced, and just had the motherboard replaced for other problems. Even before that happened the computer would hard freeze, but only after I plugged in USB devices. It was much worse while on battery power (freezes 5 - 15 minutes after USB plug in, and then again after a manual reboot). It's extremely frustrating, but it rarely freezes while on AC power.

Just to let you know:

HP just issued a patch warning for HP Pavilion laptops regarding problems with the WD hard drives. I do not know if this applies to your issue, but it might help.
