Problem installing 2nd HD in A51m 7700

Hi all! I've noticed others have had problems with adding a second HD to the 7700, but none of the other threads seemed to address exactly what I'm encountering, soo...

I used this page off of the AW site to make sure I got the new drive installed in the right spot relative to my old (primary) HD. The new disk is another Hitachi 7200 RPM drive, brand new out of the package and unformatted. When I installed the dirves per the instructions above, the new drive is the only one recogznized by the computer when I turn it on. It does the same thing when I swap the posiition of the drives; in either configuration, whenever I turn on the computer it only recognizes the new drive, attmpts to boot from it, and of course comes up with the "OS not found" message.

I've also tried pulling out my floppy drive and XP CD to try and boot from CD and load the disc drivers from the floppy. However, this also didn't work as the windows installation will get so far and then freeze. Any ideas?

i had the same problem. I installed a new drive and windows doesnt like it. Check to make sure your jumper settings are correct if you have ide drives. I had to install the new drive in the master position and install xp onto it and have the original drive in slave. Though this seems to be causing some weird issues.

If you have a linux live cd see if it will recognize both drives. This means its a strange xp issue. Take out the new hard drive, and revert to the factory setup. back up all your data (if you havent done it yet). If you didnt get the alien respawn dvd or have a ghost image, download nlite and make a custom windows cd with all the drivers slipstreamed in. that might fix the freezing issue.

Then either using the linux cd (if you have it) or the windows install, wipe the drives, and hopefully you can get a clean install of windows going with all the drivers already installed for you.

i hope that helps. I managed to get xp to work without having to reformat everything. But there are some weird issuse where if i dont turn off the computer for a while, any internet usage (torrents, downloads, or just browsing regular websites) slows down my computer and makes movies and music skip.
