ok, its come down to sony vaio sz or dell xps m1210..help me choose

ok... i finally decided to get one of the laptops mentioned... of course i plan on beefin them up to the best components that is available to the system i choose... so yeah it'll go somethin like:
intel core 2 duo t7600
windows vista home premium
nvidia geforce 7400
100gb
.... u get the idea of my plan... but which would be a better choice? which has better performance and style and can last at least 4 years w/o a major decrease in performance like some of my previous laptops have gone through?
any help would be appreciated

I vote for Sony. It has superior build quality, and has much sleeker styling.

I would say go for the better deal...for the record the M1210 is built just as good as any recent Sony Vaio I've handled. The M1210 has a metal shell. However, the SZ series do have the ability to switch between the Intel GMA and GeForce 7400 graphics to save battery. That is an attractive feature if it has a significant benefit on battery run time.

As far as the Laptop lasting 4 years without a major slowdown in performance. That's pretty much an impossibility, Technology gets outdated. Heck, the GeForce 7400 go isn't that great of a performer in the first place. It struggles in current titles. The Quadro in my D820 is a GeForce 7400 equivalent and it has four times the onboard memory as the Sony SZ or XPS M1210. It's spectacular for a 12" form factor, but isn't anywhere close to what you'll find in a larger system.
