This Alienware Alternative

I'm a college student so I'm not totally convinced the Alienware is worth the extra excessive cost. I don't have the computer know-how most of you guys have so I was hoping someone has heard/dealt with CyberPower. Their notebooks with Sager-like specs run at about $1800-$2100! I can nearly buy two Cyberpower notebooks for that price! Granted, I won't have the coolest looking notebooks imagineable ...but I'm not sure if it's looks are worth the $1500. Their website is this: cyberpowersystem.com
Take a look and please give me your opinions. I don't want to make a HUGE mistake with not going with Alienware.

C19,

Its a good question you put forth. You're just asking it in the wrong forum. Head over to the Notebook General section of talknotebooks.com. You could also try the "Other Laptops" section.

This is very much slanted at Alienware...most of us own them, not Cyberpowers so we really have nothing to interject from experience.

Check out www.resellerratings.com and see what you can find. You might also want to look at www.bizrate.com. There's one other... trying to remember the name... www.dealtime.com? I'm not sure on that last one.

Your thread most likely won't last long, though, considering that what you posted is against forum rules. We all seem to bend them a bit at times, but just letting you know for future reference just in case your thread disappears or gets locked and you wonder why.

First off I would re-word your post, I don't know about anybody else but your making it sound like AREA-51m's are selling for $900 to $1000 apiece too me, if their going for that price I will order a couple tommrow...

Probably the best way to summarize cyberpower is that they are just like most other pricewatch.com companies. I don't think they are doing anything deceptive, I think their mark ups are so low that there is simply no money left over for much else. It's just their business model I suppose. I am sure there'd be a higher percentage of hardware failures.
As long as you know what you're getting yourself in for, you'll be right.

Anyway, how about the hypersonic? Probably a bit cheaper and the cases aren't so try hard looking.

With voodoo, alienware and hypersonic you are paying for the service they provide. Probably the best way to figure it out is to weigh up the positives and negatives of the systems/companies. How important is after sales support? Do you care you if get a few dead pixels? Do you have high tolerance levels and the time to deal with uncooperative people.

PoorBoy--
Whoa, my bad...I just changed my post. If I could indeed buy two Area 51m's for that price, I'd be in heaven.

David--
Thanks for the breakdown. I guess it may be wiser to save up and buy the Alienware....

I agree with David B -- on this forum, only a couple of people have even tried to order Cyberpowers, and those were very recently, so no one has so much as received their units yet, let alone had time for a review

AND

even if they had, you'd only have a couple of reviews -- hardly much of a sample.

I find it odd - most people have no problem risking 2 grand on a questionable company (in that there aren't many/any reviews posted about them yet) but 3 grand is an entirely "different" amount of money, with different rules -- suddenly it's too much?...

If you can save the extra $$ in a reasonable amount of time, get your Precious from a company that will treat you right *after* the sale, regardless of what happens. It beats learning the hard way...

Just my $.02.

After saying all this, I had to order from cyberpower!
Unfortunately, I had some time restraints and cyberpower have the ability to jump the line by paying a bit extra.
If I had the time in hand, I would have gladly paid the extra few hundred for peace of mind and that no dead pixel policy. Basically, I waited too long for new technology to come out that I ran out of time. That'll teach me (but probably won't).

I'll post a full review about the 8355 this week.

I'd recommend PC Torque if you need to order a Clevo machine.

As for Cyber Power, the ratings on them aren't too great. Kinda the same as ibuypower I think.
