Let me try to explain, blue-ray and HD-DVD drives are expensive(700.00 and higher), notebooks drives are higher than desktop type, parts to built them are in high demand so there are shortages on them, right now they is no big need for them, yeah you can hold more data but the media is expensive. Dell and other pc companies are starting to add blue-ray and hd-dvd in their inventory but only on their most expensive laptop/desktop(XPS series). If you remeber when DVD burners first came out they to were high as hell but now you can get a good one for cheap(desktop at 35.00 & laptop at 45.00). Sony is the major pusher on the blue-ray and I not sure on hd-dvd so right now I wait a year or two before buying. Dell has no plan of offering blue-ray on the small screen notebooks until prices start to go down and the media is more mainstream.
