Sagersaled dept; my first impressions

Thread Starter
Well I am new to this forum, but I have been looking through all of the threads about sager vs alienware. Now I am trying to decide what to buy. I have a $2500 buget. Now looking through the forums alienware is getting bad comments due to the fact dell owns them and dell has by far the worst customer support. So I called sager. To my surprise I get a fellow from India. This guy who calls himself tony just says "hello?". I had to ask if I called the correct number. He say's "yes why?". So right now there goes the sale. I was ready to drop $2500 on a sager 9260. Well my only question was the difference of the remote control and tv tuner. This guy did even know his product line. He had no clue. He told me to buy the $135 one if I planned on buying vista. Otherwise buy the cheaper one for XP.

Whatever,? Then I asked “when does the $300 discount expire for the NP5760?” His response, “I don't know?” When we run out of laptops?.

If this is sager sales dept. I am very worried of how bad the support must be.

Has anyone purchased a sager laptop and had the same issues as myself?

Sadly yes. I have actually driven to Sager's building in CA, to resolve an issue I had with a laptop. I was not impressed at all. Their front office is a few desks in the front of a warehouse and the assembly line is in the same warehouse behind that with parts strewn everywhere. Though you are lucky that you actually were able to speak to a person when you called customer support. I have heard of a few people with decent Sager customer support experiences, but many are not good.

i bought 2 Sagers from Discount Laptops and never had to deal with Sager until I had a problem with my first Sager and I used email to get my RMA number and instructions. I sent the laptop back to Sager with no issues about 4 Days later they called me back asking if I wanted to any special shipping and I said no so Sager paid the shipping back.

Yes I have when my mine went out I thought it was the ac adapter and the person I talked to was not from India but he didn't know anymore than your guy.I did a lot of research on Sagers but it didn't do me anygood mine failed about 2 weeks after the 1yr warranty failed. Be careful of this forum, they are basically a shill for the manufacturers and there are people who will post some nonsense about Sager being good yada yada.Don't believe it I have owned a lot of laptops in my lifetime and never had a motherboard fail.My advice is buy an HP/compaq at Costco they have 90day return and Concierge program after you buy.Sager is basically a facade, the computers are built by Clevo and manufactured in China.

Yeah, that must be it, were all in this forum as secret agents of Sager who's only life is to keep up the conspiracy to say false truths that our sager's that were using to type on this forum can not really exist, because they are all dead. Give it a rest Rancool.

And Hp/Compaq are also made by others companies like Compal & Quanta in Taiwan and China also.

1st off no company is perfect. I've heard good & bad about Sager, if you don't like them don't buy another one. You don't need to bash the company (which seems to be the theme of all of your posts). All computers are built by multiple companies. The logistics involved in any laptop build would probably impress you. Computers are also commonly rebranded & sold by other resellers (this happens all the time in the retail market)... Sorry to bust your conspiracy theory but these people are not "agents of Sager" these are people that are here to assist other members with legitimate questions. If you notice the bright orange blight that represents your rep you might take a moment to consider trying to be productive instead of being an agent of the "anti-Sager underground"

That may be a factual statement but extremely misleading. Dell laptops get serviced at my desk in my office the next day.

I bought my SAGER 9750 less than one year ago thru PCTorque. I also bought and paid for the extended onsite warranty.

Now my laptop is dead and after talking to SAGER I'm shit outta luck. Evidently as far as SAGER is concerned your "FACTORY" warranty clock starts ticking when they get the order not when you get the laptop. I was flabergasted by that response and wanted to make sure I had understood correctly, so I asked the SAGER tech I was on the phone with again, "So your saying my 1 year factory warranty *doesn't* start the day I get the laptop?" to which he said, "Yes thats correct"

In my case there were all kinds of problems with the order processing at (the old) PCTorque and no one could give me a straight answer about whether or not it had even been registered with SAGER.

Then when that all got straightened out my 9750 was configured with a Quadro Go1400 which was on indefinate back order and that took another couple of weeks to come in before they could even start the build.

So here I am with a "high end" laptop that I paid hard earned cash money for including an extended onsite warranty for just this type of situation and its basically a doorstop.

The tech from SAGER did suggest rather helpfully that since I had no warranty anymore, go ahead and tear into it and maybe you'll find the problem!

I doubt I'd be in this situation if I had a Dell or a Compaq, but live and learn. I have.

How is his statement misleading? It's completely true. As far as the laptops getting serviced the next day, I would imagine that is because they paid for on site service (as I did).

The warranty company was a 3rd party extended warranty company that went out of business, correct? Is that why your warranty is useless (I saw you posted that you had an extended warranty).

i'm sorry for your bad luck. It happens. I doubt they could have known the warranty company was about to go belly-up. Perhaps you can talk to them some more & get a discount on service?

The SAGER experience

I know it's completely true, I just got done saying the very thing. It's misleading because someone new to this whole laptop game might read your post and think, "Well hey! Dell and HP's are mfg'd in China and Taiwan just like the SAGER, so there won't be any difference in my ownership experience."

When in fact there could be (as in my sad case and many others) a *HUGE* difference, because of the fact that SAGERS are *only* sold thru 3rd parties (entities like PCTorque) and serviced thru a 3rd party after the manufacturers warranty period.

So what I said stands. If your hard earned money is important and you want an extended warranty to cover your investment, then go with one of the big fellas.

Just so its not left out, all warranties now go directly through Sager's factory and work is performed in house. Besides the major re-sellers(which people prefer over sager themselves) there are no longer any 3rd party companies involved with the warranty or any process.
As for Sager's service, it has been known that they can be sometimes difficult to deal with, that is why people order from re-sellers like ourselves. However, this is due to a slight language barrier as most of their employees have a heavy Chinese accent(not Indian.) Most people only have good things to say about their experiences(with a few exceptions of course, ATS) but the fact is you will never hear those opinions on these forums because they are not visited unless there is some issue. And unless you pay through the teeth for dell/hp premium on site service, good luck trying to deal with them. Those are some of the worst nightmares I have ever heard.
