DX10 card Benchmarks VS current M1705/1710 - Page 4

Ahh I see. I remember reading something about it on the other thread. Thanks.

I'd really like to try an ATI out...I've only had nvidia so far even though a few years ago ati was better imo...I could probably only use an ATI for a month or two before crawling back to nvidia though...
And also, as stated before, I'm just not satisfied with my lcd. At first, I wondered what others were complaining about, but after coming back to my lcd after watching like tv or whatnot, its just way too dim. I've seen the HP's and Sony's in computer stores and they just seem to be a higher caliber
Light leakage and dead pixels are nonissue with me however

LCD depends on luck. I've had 2 Samsungs, and a Sharp so far, and the Sharp's screen, as you mentioned is far closer to one of those screens at computer stores. Even my wife noticed it! (This means alot!) I would like to see LG screens one day since many are woo'ing about them.

It is a mater of luck. If you look at my review (in my sig) you will see my light leakage pics. It's almost non-existent.

I found this information via notebookreview.com's forums who found it via the Inquirer.net. Just thought that it might be relavent to this discussion.

WHILE THE ORIGINAL G80 chip was a monster and consumed over 100 watts of power, Nvidia decided to mark this summer with its NB8E chip, a re-spin of the original G80 that will address the enthusiast notebook segment.

In order to fit the power envelope, lots of changes have been made, from the way the chip is manufactured to the functional units themselves. Even though these cuts will decrease 3D performance when compared to the desktop, this will be a most powerful chip for notebook market. Currently in roadmaps we have seen somewhere between Croatia and Taiwan, NB8E should come to market as NB8E-GTX, NB8E-GT and NB8E-SE. These codenames will probably end as GeForce 8800M GTX, 8800M GT and 8800M GS.
For the end, here's a teaser. For dual-PCB 7950GX2, Nvidia used G71M, mobile version of its ultra-successful G71 (7900) chip. Guess what becomes a possibility if the G80 is packed in 22W+? </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

So does this mean that the Geforce 8800M is/will be announced? Nvidia's site still says "The GeForce 8M Series for enthusiast will be released in the summer of 2007!"

Since summer really is mostly in Q3 this might or might not really change any predictions I have read about the release of the high end 8M series. Just wanted this forums input on the "news" and how legit you think that it is.

Keep in mind that Summer ends September 22nd. Q3 is a good time to expect this card. I take Inquirer information with a grain of salt. I don't expect a 22w card to perform as good as the 7950GTX.

I fear the first 8800 Series card may be a watered down mobile solution that performs worse tna the 7950GTX, but is marketed for it's DX10 support, not it's performance. Then perhaps later on they will bring in the high power cards that will run over the 7950.

It's just one possible way things could go. All we can do for now is wait & speculate.
That fact that summer really ends on Sept 22 is what really has me down. For me it really ends about a month earlier on Aug 20 when I head to college. I will be getting a gaming notebook and a high end one at that since I am majoring in game design. I would hope a good DX10 solution is available for mobile platforms by then, but who knows. I would just hate to "settle" for a Geforce Go 7950 GTX when its DX10 equivalent is only a month away from release. So your right, all thats left is for me to wait, speculate, and hope.

The GTX version won't be 22 W. The NB8E-SE version will be a significantly less powerful version and could meet those low power specs.

8600M GT TDP=43W

..unlikely unless they castrate the card. Even with a die shrink

Ebay item # 290126070134

(lol macbook w/8800) they dressed up the page real nice though!
Thanks for the link man! I have not followed the "scene" recently so I did not know that the 8800 was already mobile and of all vendors, Apple would be on the list. I have to check with the wife and the bank account but by sometime tonight I should be able to place a considerable bid on that machine

EDIT: Now if only I can find a place for it on my iRack

I was just reading over the thread and I noticed someone put up this link

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...ist.844.0.html

Particularly I was trying to see how well the 8600M GT performed since some people were giving it pretty high praises from it's performance in the new Macbook Pros. I was kind of dissapointed by where it was, but I also noticed something different. Under the vertex shaders and pixel shaders, it's listed at 16. I know that the 8-series uses stream processors so I wasn't sure if it was put down as 16 because of naming sake or because it might not have been the full on 8600M GT that's listed on nvidia's website. A minute detail I know, but I was just curious considering some are claiming that their 8600M GT's get almost close to a 7900 GS.

That Mac book page has to be a typo. An 8800M with just 256MB ram? Even if they expanded the bandwidth to 256 that seems way too low.

The notebookcheck.net site just split the 8600M GT's 32 stream processors between the vertex and pixel columns so as not to create a whole new column for just that card and the new type of shaders. At least that's how I interpret it.
Did you mean 8600M GT, because I haven't heard anything about an 8800M's benchmarks as of yet. I've put the link below for where I read it from. Check the benchmarks on it. Note that it is for a 2.4GHZ Macbook Pro w/ a 8600MGT with 256mb GDDR3 memory and 2gb of memory.

...It' s a scam... As far as Stream processors are concerned there are still pipelines. THe concept behind stream processors, is using the GPU for more than GPU operations. Using them for things normally done by the CPU such as vector calculations, or projects like Folding@Home, since GPU's are extremely powerful computational units.

22W for a 8800M go? When a 8600 uses 43W, how the hell will a 8800M be able to use 22W?

This can only mean that the card has been severely nerfed, just like the 7800 Go was when it was released.
^^ It may use 22W in 2d mode

The 8700M GT has just been added to Nvidia's web site. No specs or launch partners yet...

Check the link out for yourself.

No more of that "Will be released in summer of 2007!" quoting.

Interesting. I wonder what the benchmark & TDP will be for those cards... Hopefully somone will get ahold of a pre-release of the card so we can see some real-life performance numbers...
Yeah, until they at least give us some specs I am a little suspicious that it might be a gimped card. Seems too good to be true that a high end DX10 card is coming out this early in the summer for notebooks. If it is at least comparable to the Go 7950 GTX in benchmarks and real game performance I'd be happy with it, but still I don't know whether to get my hopes up yet...
