Should i sell my e1705?

Here's the configuaration but now i have 1gig and a 512mb stick instead of 2 512mb sticks.

Vista- Home Premium but im am going to dual boot xp pro in a few days
Core 2 Duo 7200 CPU
ATI x1400 Graphics
Dell wireless card and bluetooth
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17, WXGA+
DVD+/-RW, 8X,
120gb HD

I only got this laptop because i found a coupon for $400 off. I went from a 700m-to E1705. BIG DIFFRENCE!! In my dorm room i have an 19inch lcd and i dont really need the 17inch screen. I need to have a fast computer. I would like a smaller one but now im also starting to like the XPS M1710. My question is how much would i get for my e1705 btw- ive had it for about a month now. And i take perfect care with it. What computer would you recommend for me, for the price that i would get for the e1705? Thanks

Depends on what you do. I noticed ur in a a dorm, so maybe a smaller notebook for taking 2 classes??? You can always dual boot XP and Vsita and sell it, u might get more money for it, since the general public wouldnt know how to do that. Tell us what u plan on doin w/ it??? If u play games you want raw power so a 17inch might be ur best bet. A 17 inch is esentially a desktop replacment, my E1705 always stays whre it is. If u dont play games and such, get a less powerful but mopre portable laptop.

I would like @ least a core 2 duo 7200 cpu, but i dont really play games. But yeah the 17inch in a pain to carry to classes eveyday. I was looking @ ibm's the t60 and the dell D620 which i really like. I would also like in a new laptop is a bigger HD like 160gb sounds good.

Well since you dont play games just get a Dual Core CPU since its multi taking power is awesome. Even a 1.83 Core Duo should do you fine. Since your in college most likely you are poor (Im at college and im poor, I use leaves as toilet paper). Anywho, AMD dual core CPU's are really cheao so maybe even an AMD CPU might be able 2 save u a few dollars. Dont overpay for something u wont use is all im saying. So dont buy an extrermely overpoweful CPU thats gona run u lota money cuz u wont be able 2 utilize all of its power. As for the 160 HD, shouldnt b a problem.

Acer makes some great Mid sized notebookes along with Dell, Apple, and IBM D620 is a good sized notebook and if you wanted something even smaller take a look at the D420 its a 2 pound wonder.

im not in college, im in boarding school. But how much do you think i could get for my e1705? on here or on ebay?

for your system, I think you could probably expect ~$750-850. Do you have a warranty on it? Problem is you're not going to be able to get as much as you would with a 7900 GS and WUXGA screen.

The Lattitude D620 is a pretty decent little work horse and isn't difficult to carry around. I cary mine with me to and from work on the train everyday. On the days I have to stand for the 16 minute ride due to crowding I don't even set it down, it doesn't bother me (with a normal bag not a backpack).

To echo what others here have said, if you're not going to be gaming then I would stay away from the M1710. While it's a fantastic machine, it really won't do anything for you. And it certainly won't increase portability.

For additional HD space you can always get an external drive, you can get them for cheaper than the upgrade cost from Dell.

How would i only get $850 for it? Its less than a month old. $850 would be you a pos hp. I paid $1300 for it. If i didnt have the $400 off coupon then i would of paid $1700. So please explain to me how you think i would at the most get $850. I emailed dell about asking about an exchange. If they say yes how would a certifide refurbished D640 be? What specs should i get? I want @ least 2gb, 160gb hd and @ least a c2d 5600 cpu. BTW- I only have a one year warranty on it. I also have an external 250gb HD, and a 30gb Ipod Video. But i would like 160gb HD in the laptop because the 120gb in my laptop now isnt enough for me. I like to carry my music on my computer with my along with some movies.

I talked to a dell rep and they said that i can return it and get back all of my $$ but i would just have to pay the shipping fee's. Im going to return it and wait for dell to come out with the updated D640 with intels' new cpu's. That will be soon right? Late may? Till i get the D640 im just gonna use my old 700m. Now i got a question bout that. I had xp pro on it for a long time and it kept on crashing then i installed a 30 day trial of vista and it works perfectly. Here's my problem i need a laptop for computer graphics (photoshop) and i had cs3 beta on my e1705 and it worked for 2 weeks but now when i try it i just opens and then closes. What should i do so that i can have photoshop elements 4 work on my 700m with vista? Thanks for all the help

Assuming a Late May release your talking about at least a 1 month build time for brand spanking new models. thats IF we see a late may release Im more inclined to see late June. So realistically you would have one in hand in September.

Should i wait? Is it worth the waiting?
Id say you wait with the system you have now and your gonna want to wait a few months for the price of the 620 Successor to drop no? Dell machines dont resell for a great amount but the resell value retains I mena you can still ge tdecent change for an inspiron 9100 which is 3 generations old heck my Inspiron 8100 which is 6 generations old still has great resell value for a notebook thats wayyyyy out of warranty and is nearly 7 years old.

The only problem is, is that i only have $1000 to spend. I want a Latitude D620. Ive heard that in late April Dell have a bunch of price drops. Will they have like a $500 price drop on the D620? Another problem is that im @ school and i need a laptop. And also ive i want to return the e1705 i dont have much time to do that.

db3rd, you sound indecisive in what you want to do :P

I agree with Machina that you should stick to your 700m until Dell releases the new CPUs.

Engadget just announced that Dell might be releasing a Tablet PC later in the summer. For college, a Tablet PC would be essential. My ex-roomate had one and the things he could do with it made everyone in class drool. I recommend you wait a little longer and see what Dell's tablet will be packed with before committing to the switch.

Yeah i saw that the other day to. But im a lefty and i have horrible hand writing so a tablet pc would be no use for me. But does any one know if dell will have a big saving on the D620 any time soon?
I don't understand how being a left will pose that much of a problem. As long as you have the tablet against a sturdy surface, it should be fine. And you don't need to rely on handwriting. Most people, especially in college, will type much faster than write. It is essential for making notes on typed documents, drawing diagrams, editing photos, etc.

As far as a discount on the D620 is concerned, you just have to keep checking weekly. I recommend you add www.fatwallet.com to your bookmarks and check it periodically. Something always pops up.

i also check slickdeals.net which has deals now for dells but there inspirons
post #19 of 23
Yeah, it usually varies between Inspirons and Latitudes. I don't think I remember seeing them together.
Generally latitudes don't have special coupons, EPP deals come around every once in a while but it's rare. Don't get your hopes up
