Max memory on the 9400/E1705?

Thread Starter
On the manual the maximum ram on this notebook is 4go like the intel chipset support. But, on the website, dell write the maximum ram is 2go. So, what is the right answer?

3.25 is what will show up for you, so 4gb is technically the maximum.

Correct, the notebook will accept 4Gb, but you'll only see 3.25, regardless of OS.

confirmed, system will see and accept 4GB, but it will only allow the system to use 3.25GB, it been tested on e1705 and M90. don't let other people say OS will support 4GB when infact it was hardware limitation design..

Does the 9400 benefit from having 2 sticks of the same Memory (I.E. 2 1 GBs) or does that not matter? (Dual channel and all that.)

Just saw this thread, never knew my 9400 could take more than 2 Gigs. If performance wouldn't be affected, I would consider getting a 2 GB stick for 3 total GB.

If I needed more memory than 2 GB then sure I'd get 3 GB and not worry about any loss in performance. I have yet to feel any increase when using dual channel and there are a few benchmarks (especially on laptop hardware) that show negligible increase.
