Hello everyone,

I am thinking about purchasing a laptop that comes wirth Vista Ultimate installed. I wanted to know everyone's opinion if I should get Ultimate or a different OS (and yes I do like to game a lot) . Any info is greatly appreciated!

Most would say to wait. Ultimate is good, because it includes everything the other versions don't.

my vote pretty much sums it up. forget vista, ESSPECIALLY if you like to game. xp is the only way to go right now for gamers. the drivers suck so bad for video cards in vista that you lose so much performance.

i went from a 3800 3dmark in vista to 4200 in xp.

Yea i agree with Vista Ultimate for now . Its just too buggy, give it some time and you can get it when most big glitches are worked out. I'm not telling you to do anything illegal BUT it is possible to d/l XP Professional Corporate Edition on Bit torrent. It is a striped down version of Windows without alotta fluff. It works fine and installing is a breeze.

Well I run a dual boot setup...Please keep in mind while 3Dmark scores are cool & everything it's not the end all to the performance of your card. I run Test Drive & Oblivion on vista w/o ANY issues at all.

Granted vista has just been rolled out & there are a lot of little quirks, but if you have 2GB of ram it works great. add readyboost & it can really breeze along... I am waiting for SP1 to get deployed before I completely switch over..But meawhile I am slowly porting everything over.

...I do play most of my games on XP though heh

If you're going to get Vista, don't bother with anything higher than Home Premium. All Ultimate really adds is support for hosting a remote desktop session. Is that really worth an extra 200 dollars to you?

Voted It's ok.

Vista is nice only if you like the fancy shiny looks.

Hello,

Does anyone happen to know for sure that if you purchase a new PC with Vista Ultimate if both 32-bit and 64-bit DVD-ROMs are included with the unit? I understand that if you purchase a retail version of Vista Ultimate both 32-bit and 64-bit DVD-ROMs are included.

It is also my understanding that when you purchase a new computer from a manufacturer and want a 64-bit version of Vista (at least Dell does not offer this option on there Website) you will have to purchase it with Vista-32 bit Home (or XP) and purchase the upgrade (either Home premium or Business) separately. Then contact Microsoft in order to have them send you out a 64-bit version of the OS.

This is why Microsoft sells both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of "OEM" Vista for new computers. I assume that this is what manufacturers purchase as well.

Paul
