Price Check sub-forum

Hey, what's the possibility of getting a Price Check sub-forum as an off-shoot of the For Sale board? I'm sick of the price check threads turning into sales, etc in the Dell forums and in agreement with Machina and MrEvil have posted that they should now be put into the For Sale section instead. I realise this is not the optimal setup so I think having a separate board for price checks is the best option.

It could be set up with the same restriction to posting (ie: 25 posts or whatever) so the sales restrictions can't be circumvented, but with everyone able to see it so even if they cannot post they can look at similar systems to get an idea of worth.

Sounds like a good idea, though we have to be prepared for resellers to move into that forum and keep bid wars out.

Anyone else have an opinion on it?

True, but there is the risk of that happenning anyway with the way it is at the moment across most of the forum (in most sections just placin price checks anywhere). Something to be mindful of though.

Should we also enforce the 25 post count limit before posting in this new thread? This would help weed out the people just looking for a quick answer for first time registered.

Yes I think so. Same restriction as the For Sale board....

Shouldn't cause too much problem anyway, as long as users with <25 posts can still view the board. That way they can look at similar systems easily (everything will be together rather than price checks all over the joint) and get an idea of what they can get.

If we do it, I like the marketplace idea mentioned by Stu & Adam. In other words, I think it would be interesting to seperate the For Sale/Wanted and Reseller Deals & Discussion sections from Notebook General, and place them in a Marketplace Forum along with the new price check subforum. That would group those similar subforums together and potentially make them easier to find. If we do this, or even just a price check subforum is added, we'd need to figure out and agree on the rules of said section and what that means for the rest of NBF.

I'd also appreciate input from other mods. So far, the discussion has been limited to the Dell mods and myself, and in my opinion, the more angles we can bring on this, the better.

^^^ Agreed. I'm liking the marketplace idea more and more. Grouping reseller board, Sale board, price check board, coupons, whatever under one section.

C'mon guys, lets here some more thoughts.

A rule change suggestion from SolApathy:

A nice slick way to bypass the system...Perhaps if they were made to at least wait 30-60 days it would cut down a litlte bit on the scammers that want to run in quick & get an easy scam out of ppl.. Yep. 30 days + 25 posts would be ideal. Not too long as to be a major pain, but long enough to deter scammers, sign-up sellers, etc.
