My 9 cell battery is dying after 8 months.

RMClock is a CPU undervolting utility I use to extend my battery charge. It happens to have a very detailed list of my battery's functions, and it states that my 9cell battery, purchased about 7 or 8 months ago, has a "designed capacity" of 8000 mWh, but has a "fully charged capacity" of only 41480 mWh.
It used to last me just over three hours, and now I'm lucky to squeeze an hour and a half out of it.
My new 6 cell that Dell sent me to replace my defective battery lasts longer than my 9 cell.

Is this typical?

If you use it everyday that is probably pretty dead on. take a look at NHC (notebook hardware control) & look at your battery wear level. BTW it also has the ability to control voltage levels & your dynamic switching (speedstep)

my battery shows a capacity of 79,920, with a current capacity of 75,000 & a 5% wear level.

Gee, thanks for moving my thread to a section with 12% of the daily views where it's sure not get any further attention.
Meanwhile on any given day there are bullshit threads that offer zero technical relavence to the setion in which they were posted that are allowed to drag on for days until someone finally gets the time and motivation to kill them.

damn I never even go into this dusty section ::cough:::cough:::

This section is aimed for technical support and believe it or not kitty your question was answered twice before in the past 2 years doesnt hurt to use the search function once in a while. Not to mention Solapthay just answered it.

OMG my name got violated! Might be a good idea to drop a sticky in each Dell section regarding this particular section. I think a lot of people overlook it.

I should be a post NAZI and just force all tech support questions here. Good call Soi er.. SolApathy

Well... *ahem*... Maybe if you did -just for a little while, then maybe this section would start to get the attention that it really deserves. Kinda break it up a bit and separate the purely 17" section from the all around tech section and the Dell general policy and build quality section.
-Or however you all designate and differentiate and allocate and predicate...
Point is, the way things are all rolled up, everyone just goes to where their post will get the most views.

When I have just plain old general laptop questions, I don't even bother to post them in the "General" section because there are all of five viewers at any given time, and half of the threads are entitled "Help Me Choose A Laptop".

As far as the search function, I use it all the time. But it doesn't always yield the specifics I need. I've often had to ask the same question two different way in order to get more perspective on the subject, or make the subject more appealing to others to entice them to answer. Certainly nothing against our good mate "Sola-Pathy" , but I wanted to get a bit more than "yeah, that shit happens", regarding my battery.

...And since this thread has digressed to a course of constructive criticism, I'll add that I request that you, as a moderator, acknowledge the fact that I try to help others out the best I can here, and thusly I am deserving, not of special consideration, but at least of the tolerance afforded some of our "less than helpful", yet favored members.

And Sol Apathy should be a CR.
