I also have a Gateway MX8734, I love this system, I have been able to do many things with it I was never able to do before, also as a note, as an old time IT professional, I did ditch Vista and loaded Windows XP Pro SP2, I do have all of the necessary drivers and the method or loading Windows XP if needed or interested, just contact me.
While it is easy, so very easy to roll over and accept Microsoft’s point of View that "Everyone" will want and needs to run Vista, that is just not true, we need to have freedom of choice and you must also understand that not every application vendor out there is able to make their applications run on Vista, as an example I am in the financial planning industry and i have certain applications that do not (not to be confused with don't want to) absolutely do not run in Vista. They need to run in Windows XP Pro, and mine is not the only example, I have a sibling that does fingerprinting and security background investigations and the software for the LiveScan fingerprinting scanners will only operate in Windows XP Pro. So it is not always so easy to just say "Go ahead and Run Windows Vista you will have to eventually and will have no choice." or "forget about loading Windows XP" it is just not always an option.
Also as a side note, I not only run Windows XP Pro but also run Microsoft Virtual PC and run Windows Server 2003 Standard and Fedora Core 7 in virtual machines
