Hi there,
Pretty simple question really. I have an inspiron 9400 currently with a radeon x1400. I was thinking of installing a nvidia 7900gs but wanted to know if it would give me a significant performance gain? I have an Intel Centrino Duo t2400 @1.83ghz and 2gig ram.

Thanks all

Very worth it in my opinion.

It comes down to how much you game though. If you game about 2 hours at least a day, it'll definitely be worth it. If you only game maybe a half hour a day, it won't be worth it most likely. Also, it depends on the game. In my opinion, for lower end older games, it's not worth it. If you're playing Oblivion and planning on maybe crisis....it's a must.

Well I did the upgrade myself a while back when I ordered my laptop. I got my laptop when they discontinued the 7800 and the 7900 was not out yet. What I did love about my X1400 was, it was very battery friendly. I remember I was outside playing WoW at night for an hour and when I stoped playing I still had half battery still left. It ran WoW just fine. Now the 7900 is much faster but now im lucky to get an hour on my battery playing solitary. I need to buy a 9 cell battery soon. Well its a good upgrade, but only if you play games.

You need to make sure you aren't using 3d clocks on your desktop...and if you really want that battery life you can downclock your 7900 about 75% and get the performance and gaming battery life of a x1400.

Do it, you will get 7800GTX like performance with the 7900GS.

For playing games it is worth to upgrade, otherwise it is not.
