Asus vs. Dell - what would you choose?

Thread Starter
Ok here are 2 models. Which one would you choose and why?

DELL Inspiron 1501
Turion 64 X2 TL52 1.6 GHz
15.4" - WXGA
HDD - 160GB
RAM - 1GB
ATI 1150
OS - Vista Home (anyway will be changed to XP)
Warranty - 3 years
Price - around 1000 $

vs.

ASUS A9RP - 5A056
Celeron M440 - 1.86 GHz
15.1" XGA
HDD - 80 GB
RAM - 512 MB
ATI x200
OS - none
Warranty - 2 years
Bonus - mouse, bag
Price - 833 $

The laptop will be used mainly for office, multimedia, internet and drawing(CAD), NO gaming. OS is not needed since they will be used with XP already purchased.
Any help would be really apriciated.
THX.

well based on the specs I woudl choose the Dell. It offers more performance, storage, ram, better video card, better warranty.

I am of course partial to Dells as I've owned a few including their more portable models. THe Turion will run circles around that Celery.

THe Video card are both very low end cards but the 1150 provides more performance.

I have not had any experience with Asus laptops. I would suggest looking on their forums to see what they have to say about the laptop you are looking at.

I would choose the Dell. The Turion X2 will pwn the Celeron

I concur normally with equal specs the Asus would have the leg up but considering the warranty alone and those specs to boot the Dell easily is a better choice.

I've never heard of that Asus model.

You can get a different and much better Asus model for a similar price to the Dell, though -- see if you can get a Z71A or one of the A8 budget models.

For those specs.... I'd go with Dell, but if you look for ASUS with around $1,000 price, then you'll get better performance instead of Celeron
