I was never able to boot form my old 7405GX, the only way I was able to do this was with Norton Ghost 2003, by making a CLONE of my HDD and backing up that CLONE onto a External USB 2.0 Drive, then Restoring that CLONE form the External USB 2.0 Drive, unless your BIOS supports booting form a External Drive, I don't think it's even possible on your M6805, I could be wrong tho? but I never got it to work without some sorta Softwear help (Norton Ghost 2003) did work and I still use this same method TODAY, on my MX6447 Notebook w/ Vista in DOS tho......... Norton Ghost 2003 is not Compitable w/ vista ONLY WORKS IN DOS.........and you need a CD/DVD Image w/ a Norton Boot Sector on it, in order to boot-in-to DOS...Don't even bother buying the new Norton Save & Restore, it's awful, I had the Trial-Wear-Version, and it dosen't even have DOS, they seem to have gotten rid of DOS, if you look around the web you may be able to find Norton Ghost 2003 for like 9 dollars, it works w/ XP very well..........if you are using XP and can get Norton Ghost 2003, then all you need is a DVD-RW to image your XP Partition.......YOU heard right, it only takes 1 DVD depending on how big your OS is, something to consider?
