External speakers for XPS?

I also posted this under SolApathy’s M1710 review but thought I might get some help here also.

I’m just about at my wits end with sound issues and my new XPS M1710.

Last week I ordered Logitech V20 Notebook Speakers. They sounded OK for the price I paid for them but the buttons to control volume were just crap so I sent them back.

I then ordered the Creative GigaWorks T20’s and an Xmod. The sound isn’t much better than the Logitech’s and the left speaker cracks and hisses when I touch the treble control. The left speaker gets so bad that I have to unplug the power cord to get it to stop.

I’m getting ready to send the speakers and the Xmod back also but don’t know what to get next. Should I try the Creative External Sound Blaster and another set of speakers or just wait and get the Dell docking device and a PCI sound card?

Altec Lansing XT1 are usb powered but have an audio connector. I purchased the Audigy PCMCIA soundcard and these for my travel audio needs. They have a nice case and are very portable.

RockSteady,

Thanks for the response.

I ended up getting a Creative External Sound Blaster Live! USB sound card and a pair of silver Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 speakers.

I don’t know how good it’s going to be since the order hasn’t been delivered yet but I guess it will hold me over until an Express Card sound card is available. Using a docking station and a PCI sound card is my other option.

I received the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 speakers and the Creative External Sound Blaster Live! USB sound card today. They both work great together so far.

The silver speakers and the silver Sound Blaster look like they were meant my XPS.

Just as an alternative possibility you could get a bluetooth (possibly wifi) receiver to plug in to an ip on a current hifi system via a mic/aux/phono i/p there are a few around from $30 Sony do 2wrms standalone bt speaker, there that thing thats like a sucktion cup thaat holds a mobile phone holder to a windscreen thats what it looks like and essentialy is but it plugs into the speaker out put you tick it on a surface like a window of a screen ad it vebrates causing the vibrated surface to act like a speaker though lower frequencies suffer with that just some thoughts in the wonderful world of gadgets .
