Mac Book or... Mac Book Pro?

I just sold me Dell E1705 because it was just to big. I'm looking into a mac and i was wondering, which should i get a mac book or a mac book pro? I goto boarding school and i carry my computer with me everywhere. I dont really play game's, I need a laptop that would be fast and light. I like the look of the Pro but i dont really think that i should spend an extra $700 on a laptop just for the look. What should i do? Get a mac book or mac book pro and why. Thanks

if u basically use it for school stuff then the macbook is your best option. if u (your parents) have the money then you could do a 15" MBP as they're only slightly heavier than the MBs. personally, i prefer the overall weight/size of the MBs for portability as compared to the 15" MBP. that said, if price is a consideration and you aren't going to be gaming or using the extra horsepower then the MBP is overkill, and then you're right, you would have spent $700+ on hardware you won't really use. the MB seems perfect for your needs.

No, but my friends with MBPs tell me that the backlighting is more of a showy feature rather than anything truly helpful. If you are a touch typest rather than someone that has to look at the keyboard all the time then it is especially showy.

If i was to get a macbook which color should i get it? I like the black one, but i have friends that have it and finger prints show up alot which i dont want

Both colors have their problems. With the black, you get the fingerprints, with the white, you get the palmrest staining. Both problems however can be taken care of with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, its just that it is easier to clean up the black than the white.

Do Macbooks run things like Garageband and Photoshop without any noticeable lag or slowdown?
I havent run into too many problems running CS3 on my macbook (1.83 with 1GB RAM), it takes a little while to load but once it is, it is ready to go. Same goes for GarageBand. Once loaded (only takes a few seconds) they are totally smooth. Which seems to pretty much be the case for OS X, it may stutter a bit when a large application starts up a bit, but once it is up and running, you are golden.

speaking of typing, i found typing on the macbook to be far superior to the macbook pro, i cant get over how nice the keyboard on this thing is... its just the perfect laptop keyboard. not to say that the macbook pro has a bad keyboard, i would rate it above average, however the macbook's is just exceptional.

The MBP is more of a devolpers laptop. The macbook is for general use and for someone who is starting out in the devolpers field.

CS3 should run great on the intel macs but CS2 and CS1 you may run into some problems.

a general truth about Adobe products. though, acrobat has actually become a pretty swift loader.

i think this about the keyboard also from time to time. But in all honesty, the mbp keyboard is just different, more of a flat surface, no keys feel i dont mind the chicklets on the MB, but i prefer the soft touch of the pro

I borrowed a friend's powerbook for about a week last year (had to do something, dont remember what, but it could only be done in OS X) and really enjoyed the keyboard on it, much more so than any other laptop keyboard... until I got my macbook. I have quite simply fallen in love with the macbook keyboard, so much so that i saved my topcase (keyboard, trackpad, palmrest) after i replaced it and am working on turning it into a desktop keyboard with a USB hub, and possibly hard drive enclosure, built in.

I think that's a good choice for you. The MacBooks are a lot of fun!

Here's the story. A trustworthy source supplied us with an actual internal Apple email that went out to thousands of Apple employees earlier today (published after the break). The fact that this was an email sent within Apple's internal email system to its employees is not in question. Let us reiterate: this was an ACTUAL email distributed within Apple's internal email system to Apple employees.

As it turns out, the internal memo Apple employees received was actually retracted by Apple shortly after it was sent out. (Also published after the break.) We received confirmation from Apple PR that this initial email sent out to Apple employees was incorrect, and they let us know that the iPhone and Leopard are both still on track, and should meet their expected launch timeframes.

Presumably Apple is now on the hunt for whomever was able to spoof its internal email system.

Continue reading False alarm: iPhone NOT delayed until October, Leopard NOT delayed again until January
