MP8708 MCE reinstall

I tried vista and wish to go back to MCE. Problem is it wants sata drivers off a floppy which this lappy doesn't have. Is there any way to get the drivers on with a flash drive? I have tried to do it with HP flash disk formatter, but with no luck. I am not sure how to make a slipstream disc. Is there an easy way to reinstall my original OS or am I stuck with this vista with crappy driver support?

No your not stuck with Vista, you can use your Restore CD's to go back to MCE, or you can make a Slipstream CD, but, in order to do that, you will need a MCE disc and not a restore disc, if all you have is a Restore MCE CD, then just install it over Vista, you will loose all your data, so back them up , here's the link to make a slipstream , but you will need a MEC OS Disc NOT a Restore Disc, that won't cut it.......... http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

It didn't come with a recovery cd, it has the 2 mce cd's and an application recovery cd which won't recover the OS.

Format your system (wipe-it-clean) with the XP MCE CD's if that's all you have, it should work, but you will LOOSE everything (All your Data), but in the end Vista will be gone, and you will have a Clean install of XP MCE you will also need to download all of the XP MCE Drivers http://support.gateway.com/support/d...param=1013924R

Problem is it won't see the HD because it needs the sata driver which it wants off a floppy that this lappy doesn't have. I am trying to make a slipstream version now. I am cash strapped, so i don't have funds to buy a USB floppy that I will use only one time when it could be used for baby food.

Isn't the SATA Drivers located on your recovery CD's it has to be on them somewhere on that disc, you could get them form the gateway driver website for your model and burn it on a CD, I know that they are there, I saw them on this page: http://support.gateway.com/support/d...&uid=158238613

I do have them, and can put them on a cd, but it wants to install them when you press F6 to install other drivers during the MCE install which I don't have a floppy for. Thats why I am trying to maje a slipstream disk. I have even tried to make a flash drive appear as a floppy to no avail.

If you can make a Slipstream XP MCE CD w/ the SATA drivers/ notebook Hardwear devices incorporated in them that would be the best way to go............. Good Luck!

just to let everyone know that I did talk to others who got it to work with a usb floppy, but not usb flash, which I cant understand. There must be a way to make a flash appear as the a: I did get it to work with making a slipstream disk which is actually easier than the regular disk. I have since gone back to try xp again. I think the restore issue is that I changes to vista and this lappy comes with a separate 5G partition thats specifically for recovery which I deleted during my first vista forray. I will let you all know how vista works out. I have mainly noticed that vista uses much more physical memory. I am not sure if its because most wasnt used under xp so it is better utilized or its just more of a hog. I hope the former.
