Just bought dv9000t, Keep Vista or not?

Thread Starter
I just purchased an HP DV9000t, I'm really looking forward to receiving it. It doesn't get built and shipped until the 10th though but. I just want some opinions on whether I should keep vista or format the hard drive and install XP. I don't know if the hardware drivers are made specifically for vista or what so I'm a little hesitant on doing that, because I do have a purchased copy of XP.

Oh, the specs on the new laptop are:

- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
- 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
- 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
- FREE Upgrade: HP Imprint Finish/Microphone/Webcam
- 40% off upgrade from 1GB (2 Dimm) to 2GB (2 Dimm)!
- 240GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (120GB x 2)
- Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works 8.0

have you considered dual booting it with xp and vista? i currently do that with 3 os' now. Ubuntu, XP Pro and Vista Home Premium.

i have found that 95% of the drivers will work with xp. you'll probably have to download them from HP's website.

any other questions lemme know

Vista???

Well I've got Vista and I think is great but there are some down sides. Quite alot of old hardware are not compatible like old mp3 players and cameras. It really all depends on what you will be doing on the computer. Vista is great for somethings but not for others. Don't keep Vista if you haven't got a really up to date Camera or MP3 player. XP is a really good operating system is well known for is usefullness!

Hope you can decide!!

Well i have been using Vista Ultimate 64-bit for the last 1 month, with the drivers available from HP website. It has been an awesome experience. Its little complicated at the starting. But as we begin to explore, we get in terms with Vista. It has almost everything available in XP with some extra features too.
Download the video drivers alone from www.laptopvideo2go.com
The graphics too for the high-end games have been superb.

Hence i wud advice anyone to use Vista Ultimate with HP Pavilion dv9000t.
It seems that this machine was designed for Vista.

like ipswich58 said there are a few problems with the mp3 players. well microsoft released a patch fix for ipod connection problems and for Zune user connection problems just recently tuesday. Take note... the 2nd tuesday of each month is patch tuesday for all microsoft software. you should update your system asap. Vista has been working great on my dv8000t for 3 months now without any glitches.

I used Vista Ultimate for a while on my zd8000. I did like it BUT as has been stated, older software and hardware are not supported. In my case, I would have needed to replace my HP scanner/ADF and Adaptec SCSI card as there will be no driver updates for them. This alone would would have cost over $500.

Now that i have a dv9000t, I will be sticking with the WinXP Pro/Media Center 2005 OS that is on it until I decide to replace the hardware.

Before you delete the whole partion keep in mind that XP does not have the drivers to support the SATA hard drives. You need a USB floppy with the drivers on them. You can download the drivers from HP's support site. I just found this out over the weekend while triple booting Ubuntu, Vista, and almost XP Pro...

Vista is an unsecure resource hog. I just bought a dv9260 that came with ultimate out of the box and dumped it for XP. Vista to me is too over the top on graphics.... gives me a headache after a while (I do web development so I'm on my PC 10+ hours a day).

I'm not even going to blink at Vista @ least until the release of SP1 personally.

Instead of overwhelming day to day Windows users with graphic intensive interfaces, I sncerely wish they would provide an option to scale it down based on user preferences; when I'm working I'd honestly be happy with a more DOS like interface!!!!

When I bought my dv6000, I refused to buy it with Vista on it. I ordered it over the phone, and demanded Windows XP. They offered to give me Media Center, and I could order a copy of Vista from their Upgrade Redemption Center. I hate Vista, but was going to get the discs for a selling perk.

I would dump Vista, at least for now. It's crap.
