Need new game suggestions

Hey guys,
I've got a 9300 with a vanilla 6800 go. I've just finished up HL2 and I'm ready for a new game. I only play a couple times a week at best so I tend to stretch my games out. I didn't start gaming until I got this machine two years ago. Since that time I've played Far Cry, FEAR, COD2, HL2 and CS:S. I still play CS:S, but I get turned off after getting absolutely pwned consistently on the Straferight boards. It just feels too chaotic sometimes. Anyway, I'm ready for a new game that I can run decently on my machine. I've never played any 3rd person games and frankly never felt that they would appeal to me so I'm still thinking more FPS types.

My specs are:
PM 1.6 OC'd to 2.13
2gb RAM
100gb 7200rpm HD
256mb 6800 Go OC'd to 348/800
OS: Vista Ultimate

So....thoughts...suggestions?

Thx!

uh...if you want a faster paced game try unreal or quake

Rainbow 6
S.W.A.T. (kinda trashy ripoff of R6)
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Deus Ex
Soldier of Fortune

Most of these games are kinda old but I'm not sure how well newer games will run for you plus I cant really think of any new fps games other than S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

PainKiller is a pretty good game its a straight shootem and killem game. Unreal 2004, Quake 4, Prey, Battlefield 2 etc...

Have you played the expansion for HL2 & FEAR?

Oblivion, though it's an RPG

Quake wars is coming out soon (June 5th *hoorah*)

Also, of course you have Battlefield 2, and Battlefield 2142. Rainbow 6 as zzpulp said above is good, I enjoy a go once in a while in RB6 vegas especially, fun to do the co-op scaling buildings and the such

Hey guys,
thanks for the suggestions. I'm not up to snuff on what games have come out so this really helps. I checked out Rainbow 6: Vegas and that definitely looks interesting. I've heard a lot about Battlefield so I'll look into that as well.

SolApathy: I haven't played the expansion for FEAR. Are you talking about Lost Coast for HL2? I have played that, but it's only one board to show off the HDR stuff.

I forgot to mention that I have played the Multiplayer version of Return to Castle Wolf. Enemy Territories I think it is. I love that as multiplayer, just never played the single player. I do want something with decent graphics though and that seems like a pretty old game if I remember correctly.

Cool guys, i'm off to check out some of these games!

Well... you could always try... (some games from my personal arsenol)

FPS:
Call of Duty & Expansion (not quite as good as COD2 IMO but still good)
Battlefield 2
Halo
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic <- technically not an FPS, but it is first person..
Day of Defeat: Source <- one of my favorite multiplayer games
Doom 3
HL2 Episode 1 <-- I actually like this more than HL2
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Painkiller
Quake 4
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
Unreal Tournament 2004

If you are willing to try somethink not first person, I recommend:
Civilization 4 & Warlords expansion
Company of Heroes
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion <- this one might not play so well on your system TBH
Lego Star Wars & Lego Star Wars II
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 1&2 and expansion
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Max Payne & Max Payne 2
Neverwinter Nights
Star Wars: KOTOR

Ok so really that was more a list of the games I have that I like than anything else but you get the idea...

I'm about to start playing XIII for some cheap thrills...as you can see the regular fps world is starting to bore me...

Unreal is the only game for me (well that and cod)...

If you liked Far Cry you'll probably enjoy STALKER. Not as good as Far Cry (and significantly shorter), but still a very good game.

Yeah I checked out Stalker and it does look very interesting. I think I'm gonna go ahead and get HL2 Episode 1 then decide between Battlefield 2, Rainbow 6 and Quake 4. Heck through Stalker in there too. So I still have a decision to make but that gets me on the right track. Thanks guys!

faction I see you're a guns fan. Same here bro. Grew up on the stuff. There's still nothing like hearing Axl's grit combined with Slash's wail.

I just like COD2 more b/c of how health works; I hate magical health packs. COD:UO I think is the better of the 2 but MUCH harder
post #18 of 31
well it is more magical how COD2 works you can regain your health.. it is world of warcraft wannabe lol.

jabulani_jonny yeah,... i cry for those times, there won't be anything similar in life anymore..
btw axl is promising and promising new album, and delaying the stuff all day long,.. sad

Guys, a while back, after posting this thread, I installed Rainbow Six: Vegas and it is running like doodoo. I had to drop it down to 800x600 and cut off almost everything to make it even halfway playable, but I'm getting serious mouse lag that makes it just about unplayable. Is this a Vista issue or what? I haven't tried installing it under XP cause I don't have the HD space in that partition. Any thoughts? Should I ditch it for something that is known to work better with Vista, like UT2004 or BF or Oblivion. My machine specs are in my sig. Thx for the help!

Personally, I had heard the game didnt run too well thats why I only said Rainbow Six and not the latest one...I would get an older one.

(And btw, XIII was terrible)
