I just bought my Gateway MT6821 3 weeks ago. 1 week after purchasing, the mouse suddenly started freaking out. After about 1 hour I figured it out. I thought my computer was frozen up because I couldn't click or double click ANYthing.
Then I turned on the touchpad illustration, and it shows that my left mouse button is in a "depressed" state. As soon as I touch it after reboot/uninstallation or anything else I do, the left mouse button locks into the "depressed" state.
Now, I own a computer repair company, so this is pissing me off now. Gateway is of no help. Synaptics won't respond because they want me to talk to gateway. Honestly, it's not Gateway's problem. It either has to do with Synaptics or Windows Vista. Here's how I know.
If I go to mouse properties and set the profile to a left handed mouse, as soon as I touch the pad, the RIGHT button becomes stuck in the depressed position. I switch back and it becomes vice versa again. This is NOT a hardware issue. I have rebooted into safe mode after uninstalling, still does the same thing. I have done everything I can think of. My USB mouse works fine though.
One day, about 2 days after this started, I accidentally left my laptop unplugged and ran errands. Cam home, plugged back in, booted, and suddenly the touchpad worked again. For 1 week. Then yesterday again it happened. So I let the battery drain, rebooted, and this time it's still broken.
This HAS to be a known issue somewhere. I AM NOT SENDIN THIS BRAND NEW LAPTOP BACK TO GATEWAY. I wish they would quit acting like i'm an idiot. I LIVE on my laptop and just got it they way I want it. There has to be a fix.
System:
Gateway MT6821
Windows Vista 32 bit
Please help guys. Search words for this post to follow because I KNOW there are more people out there with the same problem.
Thanks in advance!
