T60 vs. T43P

Hello all.

I am having now the IBM Thinkpad t60 with intel 950 graphic card and 14 XGA display.
The machine runs perfect and I realy like it, except the DISPLAY! the display is very annoying, accept only 60Hrz rr,low resolution and poor viewing angels. this thing realy do headaches to me!

I have an option to add 70$ and get a new T43P instead!
It has UXGA display which is awsame!! and nearly the same perfomences (isnt it?)
i heard that T43p is louder and hotter, is it realy unacceptable? is it realy too noisy and hotter? or it's like that only in heavy tasks?

what do u think guys?
display is a very important part in a notebook, and other variants of t60 is too excpensive for me.
Would you suggest me to take the t43p?

Sincerly,
Sasha.

what will you be using it for? where are you buying it from? what are the specs and price for each notebook?

Generally I would say the T60 will be much better than the T43p but we can't tell if we don't know what is in the machine.......

The comp is for programming, a bit photoshop and internet.

The t60 is:
1.66 Dua 2 core
1 Gb ram
intel 945 224 gfx
80gb hd

pretty mid model..

The t43p:
2 Ghz 2mb
1 Gb ram
ATI FireGL 128mb
superb display!!! muhahaha
80GB

I am buying from a person who deals with laptops (I buy it in Israel so the prices are uncomareble)

So what do you say?

both of those will work fine, I would say go for the T43p especially since you love the display.

but what about the noise and the heating problem?
did somebody hear it? is ut so terrible like ppl saying?

thnx

The T43 made more noise than my T60 did. But, the fan noise was manageable. I can tell you that much.

The video is so significantly better on the T43 that it makes it more difficult to pick. Better CPU vs. better monitor

I would stick with T60..

Look at T60P or T61

T43 uses the old centrino, no dual core..

T60 no question.

T43 has heat and fan problems, not to mention the BIOS error messages with certain after market HDDs.

Unfortunatley, the T60 would probably be best, even thought the vid card isn't as good.

I have had a T43p for 14 months. The machine is flawless. 1600 x 1050 15" screen is beautiful and the keyboard very easy to use for extended periods of time.

Wish list would include 2 more USB ports, a fire wire port, and a memory card slot, but that's all.

Would love to upgrade to the T61p is the price was right and I could get the screen I wanted. thx.

The screen is probably the most important thing on a laptop. Whatever features your laptop happens to have, they are worthless if you're unhappy it.

I would either go with a T60P or the T43.
They bought T60's where I work and they are horrible.
They have been having motherboard problems and the screen on them isn't very good.

I have a T42p and is very good.

Downsizes of the T43p:
- Heat & noise problems (you can use TPFan Control to lower fan speed)
- Do not accept most commercial HDD (must have IBM firmware) else wouldn't work (hack is possible in some HDD's)

Vantages over T60:
- Better video card
- Old IBM design
- T60 is the first Lenovo made Thinkpad, not as good

I'd say is difficult to say which one to get. I maybe go for the T43p, since you don't need that much CPU power (Pentium M have good performance)

But if you'd like to have a long lasting machine go for a T61/T61p.
