im in the market for a new laptop since i will be heading to college later this year and i need some opinions! I have been looking to get a hypersonic for about a month now and i don't know which laptop to get......get the CX7 now with the 2.33 or get the eq7 with the 2.67 extreme.....in my case (electrical engineer) will i need the extra muscle, or is it just over kill to get a 2.67 extreme? thanks for any input.....

I would say that if you are looking for a Desktop Replacement to wait for the EQ7 with the pro centrino chipset and the Nvidia 8800GO w/ DX10. It should be appearing well before you head off to college. That would be more than extra muscle, almost like extreme.

If on the other hand you are looking for a "lappy" the CX7 should be fine.

Soon either later this month or June. They keep playing with the dates but when it hits the street this entire Notebook Forum will explode. Just stay tuned.

this is my thinking......i was going to upgrade to the 8800 Go when games that actually use DX10 are mainstream which won't be for a while and then by that time the card will be less expensive..... so it comes down to deciding ot wait on the pro centrino chipset. what difference will this make?? i already have a wireless N1 card.

do ya think that the extreme 2.67 will be over kill and i'll be fine with the 2.33 on the CX7? i can get everything the same on both but the processor. I think that my push for a faster processor is cutting out my thinking of portability, battery time and price...... i'm not sure what programs i will be running but the 2.33 will be able to handle them right?

. If you want a DTR, go with the EQ7. Its very very powerful, but its frickin' heavy. If you want a more balanced option, power and mobility, then go with the CX7. I think the EQ7 is almost too powerful, nobody will really use it and tap intp it's full power for a long time. The CX7 is the best option IMO.

would this be your same opinion if i was to buy an eq7 now with the 7950 gtx and it chipset it has now if ya go to hypersonics website?

Right now the upgrade question is will the mobo that is available now work with the 8800GO, it should.

BUT...

There will be new mobos and chipsets so old tech which is the 7950 is about to be replaced with the new Pro Cent and 8800go. If you wait you could get a deal on the old stock because prices will be going down to make room for new.

I would not look at anything old right now with the idea of upgrading, it would be a waste of money since everything would have to start from scratch. If this were happening a year ago and without the changes happening I might have but now forget about it.

We don't have any confirmed information, must of the stuff were saying when we talk about are our estimated guesses or our speculation or info we heard from rumors. The CX7 will have Santa Rosa in it, thats a fact. Why? Look at the CX7's history, PM to CD, to C2D, ect.

Ya gota do the homework.

Read the other forums and check out Toms Hardware or Hard Forum or any number of other sites to get the info.

I had even checked out Alienware, Sager, Voodoo, Falcon and Arima (who makes the CX7), Clevo (who makes the EQ7) and found that some of what was reported on one site changed in mid week. This industry changes in a nanosecond and if you blink you missed it. If we all could predict what the heck is going on here we all would have won the Power Ball months ago.

Instead of asking us for the answers go to them. We are just living on Press Releases from the manufacturers at this point, we know they have the materials and are just waiting to release it (in working order with the Vista Drivers).

Like I said when they hit the market you will know it.
