9300 upgrade questions

Hi guys, I have a couple questions on a couple upgrades I want for my 9300. I'd really appreciate the advice and help.

1) I have a 1.86 GHz PM CPU and I want to get the highest speed I can, so I was looking to buy a 2.26 GHz PM. This was one of the best deals I found:

http://www.futurepowerpc.com/scripts...PM780&REFID=FR

It's not a bad price considering Dell charges over $900 for it. I know another option is pin-modding but I read there's a chance a 1.86 GHz PM might be unstable and I don't want to take a risk. So would you guys recommend me jumping on this buy?

2) The other question I had was about the keyboard. I never liked the black color and always liked the silver keyboard on the M1710. So of course my question is if I can buy a M1710 keyboard and replace it with mine. And if I can, where can I find one?

3) Okay, my last question is about the SB Audigy 2 ZS Notebook PCMCIA Sound Card. Is this still a good card to buy or is there something better (more worth it) to look out for.

That's about it for now! Thanks again in advance for any answers to these.

ummm...that price is insane...I paid $600 for my 1405/w a T2600 in it...Look on ebay.. 770's run $180...

the 1710 keyboard connector is not going to be compatible with your laptopn motherboard

The ZS card is definitely still a decent laptop card

while its true theres a higher chance of 1.8 -> 2.4 being unstable you can almost guarantee getting 1.7 -> 2.26 and you could do this all for <$100
Also, I'm pretty sure the m1710 uses a different connector than the 9300 for the keyboard
Yes that sound card is still quite nice

Edit: Guess I left this tab open for awhile

Yeah that is a high price. I paid 225 on ebay for the PM780. + 30 bucks more for a square trade warranty.

It seems like pinmodding a 1.7 --> 2.26 is the best option. Giving the price a second thought, I don't think the performance gain I'd be getting is worth $600 and I'd just be throwing away money when I could get the same result but only paying about $100 (just at the cost of alittle extra inconvience).

So I went searching on ebay and I found Item number: 330115691340

Does this item look creditable?

Thanks again! You guys probably saved me from making a costly mistake.

The mods here don't like ebay links too much. Instead just post the auction number. Here save 20 bucks on that cpu put this in the search on ebay main page: 180113983629

if you decide to get that sound card, dont go out to best buy and spend $100 for it, they go for cheap cheap on ebay, brand new. I made the mistake of paying too much for one when I first got my 9300.

Thanks for the warning. I looked around first though and found a great price for it on newegg:

I had a question though. Is this card only best to get if you're using mainly external speakers or does it improve the laptop speakers and headphones sound?

well it will improve the headphones sound as long as you plug your headphones into it but it will not improve your computer's speakers' sound

My 9300's PCMCIA chipset didn't like to work well with the ZS. After a while the sound started crackling and popping, despite my best efforts to fix it. I ended up returning it.

Really? Sorry to hear that. I hope that doesn't happen with my 9300. I ordered mine yesterday from newegg, I'll post later how well it works for me.

Hey, I just got the sound card today and was trying it out and it sounds good, pretty decent.

I have a problem though. I have no idea why but I get no sound at all when I run F.E.A.R. It works fine with every other game I have but that one.

Has anyone else had the same problem or any suggestions?
