Cannot Format Sata HDD's in Sager 9860

Thread Starter
I have a Sager 9860 P4 3.6gighz, 2gigs of DDR2 and an Nvidia 6800 and recently tried to reinstall windows through a windows xp pro setup disc and nothing! Once i get to the screen where it asks me what HDD I'd like to partition, format and put windows on it doesnt detect my HDD, it just says "Unknown" 4 times in the HDD window and whatever key i press after that sends me to the blue screen of death! I've even put in a different HDD and tried to partition and format it and it does the same exact thing so the only thing i know is it isn't a HDD issue, its something with my computer hardware. The real kicker is i can still boot up into windows if i juist let it go. Anyone ever experience a problem like this before?? any ideas??

For SATA drives in XP you need the controller driver, otherwise the disk will not detect the drive. Your drivers are here: http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/tech_sfwrdls.html#2 I'm not familiar with the process since I have a parallel hdd, but I think you need to install it just like a RAID controller driver, with a floppy drive during the setup load screen.

At some point when you've booted from the Windows CD, it will ask you to press F6 if there are other drivers for you to install (or something to that effect) these are the Sata drivers that nyako above is referring to... but you need a portable floppy so that the installation process knows to look there for the driver.
