THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR EVERYONES HELP AND ADVICE. IM SO BURNT OUT ON THIS ONE IM READY TO USE THIS THING AS A FRISBEE

I recently bought a used NP9860s and it came with XP pro. I upgraded to VISTA ULTIMATE and it worked, only problem is that it would lock up and freeze the system if I let it idle for more than 15-20 minutes. Symtoms got slightly worse, sometimes it would freeze before booting up, other times it was cool. I did a reg fix, and last I did a tune up to check the disc for errors......BAD MOVE!! Once it restarted to check for errors, it has not booted up correctly anymore. It gets to the boot screen...choose a boot option, "safe mode", safe mode with netorking, normal mode, etc...I pulled out everything, cleaned all the dust, rethermaled the video card and cpu, but that was not necc. SO ANYWAYS!!! Im stuck, I tried a VISTA REPAIR....NO GOOD....the furthest screen I got to was vista green loadup screen before desktop, then it forze again. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GOOD PEOPLE, HELP ME!!! LOL....If it doesnt get resolved I am just going to part it out. and cut my losses..I know the machine is fine (hardwarewise) I just cant get the bad bootup part figured out =[ Here are my specs:

3.4 Extreme
2GBS Ram
2x 60 GB raid HDDs
ATI X800256 card
O.S. = Vista Ultimate

Thanks again Guys!!

might want to check the hard drives to see if one of them has any bad sectors. sounds like a hard drive problem.

ya, ive tried that, but the thing keeps rebooting itself before the disc check is finished. My friend who is an IT said it could just be the CPU going bad, which is fine, because Im sure I can find another cheap.

Uh oh.. Hate to be the one to break this to you bud, but the 9860 is a total lemon. The processor chosen for this model never should have made it into a laptop, as it runs EXTREMELY hot, and damages the motherboard and other components. The rebooting symptoms you have are exactly what every other 9860 owner whose motherboard was failing encountered.. In fact, mine has been dead for months, and that's AFTER I had the motherboard replaced once. Hope you got it cheap, because it's going to cost about $500-$800 to replace the motherboard/processor with quality components.. Good luck.. Russ
