Hi all,
I was using my 9750 the other night when the battery died. I plugged it in and rebooted. Everything works fine until you get to the screen where you would usually choose which user you want to login as. Only that screen neverc omes up...the lcd screen goes dead black. The hard drive runs, lights flicker, etc. but the screen stays black.
If you reboot in safe mode the screen works normally. Bios screens also work fine. Initially I suspected that I had FN-F7d accidentally to another screen but I have tried every possible FN + a number combination without success.
- I tried restoring to a week earlier - no change.
- If I connect an external monitor and use the function keys to activate it, the external monitor works. the image is a little distorted (there is some non-moving static in the picture) but it's a dell 2407 and I have not loaded the drivers for that monitor on my laptop so that might be the cause. At no point does the laptop monitor display anything after the windows boot logo unless I hibernate the laptop..then that display comes up.
In what may or may not be related, the laptop has made staticy noise through the soundcard for a minute or two after it boots up. It has done this for a few weeks. When this happens the Realtek screen pops up and sesms to be searching for connections.
I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
