powernow lowers cpu to 800mhz running on vista

When my computer is not plugged in when I am running vista, my amd athlon 64 mobile 4000+ will go down to 800mhz when it is unpluged from the power supply. I went into vistas power setting and made them all max perfromance, and it still won't change from 800mhz. When I plug it back in, it will got up to like 2400mhz and then fluctuate depending on what im doing. So when it is running on the battery, the power now technology won't let it go past 800mhz no matter what I do. I have a gateway MX7515.

Let me know if anyone has any tips,

Thanks
Mark

Do you have your notebook in ACPI (Advanced Configuration & Power Interface) if not go to the device manager and change it to (ACPI) this works in Both XP & VISTA

It's actually not a problem, it's by design. The battery drain at full speed is pretty nasty, and can burn the battery up quickly (actual battery life). The battery isn't designed to handled the current that can be pulled under full load.

With certain CPU drivers in XP, you could make it throttle (or run at max speed) on battery. There are also some apps that work in XP to gain better control over it. I don't know if they work under Vista though. My favorite is RMClock. Give it a look see and see if it works in Vista.
