OS X on an HP dv9000?

I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 series laptop - AMD TurionX2 64-bit processor, 1GB RAM, 100GB hard drive, nVidia GeForce Go 6150 256MB video, etc. I'm currently dual booting WinXP MCE and Kubuntu 7.04.

I'm getting a second hard drive, 160GB, and I was thinking about trying to install OS X. Does anyone have any experience installing OS X on a dv9000 or similar laptop? Are there things in general I should look out for? I'm looking for any and all advice I can get before I try to tackle it.

I don't think it's all that usable to run osx on a pc. The current implementation is more a curisoity. From what I've seen you can only have a 6gig partition and much of the hardware doesn't have drivers.The only method I've seen is to image your drive from a vmware image.

If things have changed and it's much more usable i'd like to know more!

Yeah, I'm not looking for total functionality. It would be more as a "test drive" so to speak, to see if I like the OS enough to justify paying the money for a new Mac.

Do you know of a good tutorial for loading OS X in VMware?

Doesnt OS X check for an EFI instead of BIOS before it will even proceed with booting?

There's a torrent of a OSX Tiger vmware image in the wild. I tried it out and it does work! This is the image that the 'OSX on a PC' is based off of.

I found that it ran extremely slow and it was pretty buggy. You'd be better off going to an Apple store and playing with the machines there.

I've never owned a Mac, but I think the current Core2 Macs are a decent value. OSX is very nice to work in if you are sick of Windows' shortcomings. You just have to realize with Mac's it's their way or the highway. Very little you can do to customize things. You can do some gaming on a Mac, but not much.

If you just like the look and feel of a mac you can make Linux to behave very similarly ( http://www.taimila.com/osx-guide-2.php ). And linux runs on just about any PC.

Well, I don't know about that laptop, but my Inspiron E1705 runs OS X like it was a Macbook, only problem is I have to disable one core in the bios before I boot it up, otherwise its slow as heck. So Yes I would think its possible but I did not want to keep having to disable one core to use it.

Its possible to install OSX on your system and not be limited to the 6 GB partition. However, drivers and compatability will suck. I remember whenever I run it on my laptops, the fans would NOT slow down especially since the CPU is locked at max speed in speedstep.

Not sure if support is better now for that. But I would just go and get a real mac if you want to run OSX.
