Hey,

I'm planning on buying the Acer Aspire 5680 and was wondering if it is even worth buying. I know Acers are affordable machines for its performance but I'm having second thoughts. Will it perform for at least 5 years or more. I have read the reviews on this site, yet I want some personal opinions. I'd appreciate some input on this notebook, thanks.

As long as you take care of it, there's no reason why it shouldn't last you 10 years. There are plenty of P1 and P2 machines out there from the late 90's.

Will it perform well given software 5 years from now? That on the other hand is different. If all you do is surf the web, email, word processing, watching movies etc. then you will be fine. All this stuff, even 5 years from now will be doable on today's technology. Once again, there are plenty of people around here running old machines for the internet and email. So there's no reason to think that basic computing will need top of the line processors/memory/gpus.
