New to posting here, but have read just about every post - Also interested in the Hypersonic response to the 860. However, I just priced the Hypersonic AX6 with basically all the bells 'n' whistles along with a similar configuration on the m860. Naturally, the 860 is more expensive - but not as much as I thought it would be. Final price came out to be $3175 American for the AX6, $4012 American for the 860. Now, I did add on the custom paint job for the AX6 as the Voodoo also comes with a custom paint job (which is $300), so you could conceivably make this price difference greater, but I wanted it to look good
. Set up both systems with the "no dead pixel" policy. Price includes shipping.
The 860 obviously has two advantages to the AX6:
Widescreen (I do like the widescreen, some people don't I know)
the ATI 9700 rather than 9600
Not sure, but think that the 860 has the AMD 64 Mobile compared to the DTR in the AX6 - believe we're talking about two different chips here (my understanding is that the mobile is better, someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
Obviously, the AX7 will rectify the situation with the 9700. I'm not sure if they'll go widescreen or not. It's my guess that the upgrades on the AX7 will add at least a few hundred dollars to the price - still means likely several hundred dollars different, but my understanding here on the forums and other places on the Net is that Voodoo service is second-to-none. I have tried to call Hypersonic 3 times now (put on hold for 35 min once, 10 min another time, busy for quite a while the 3rd time) and not gotten through. Voodoo has bent over backwards service-wise and answered all questions fully and quickly. That's worth the extra to me - I'll probably go Voodoo.
What do y'all think? (BTW, I'm not knocking the service at Hypersonic - they seem to have a pretty good rep, too - just that I could not get through).
