O.K. I need a little help with my Mac, there just little noob problems and I haven't yet mastered the Mac just yet so here are my questions.

1. What program do you use to do Defragmentation (like how windows has Disk Defragmenter) on a Mac hard drive?

2. I tried out boot camp and deleted my windows partition, but now my Mac is running slow. Is there something I need to do to correct this?

Finally.............

3. Has anyone been have issues with firefox? Whenever I click on it soooo long to start up.

1. OS X defrags on the fly when larger files/programs are installed/opened. 2. Try repairing permissions in OS X. (finder>applications>utilites>disk utility>repair permissions). If that doesn't to it, boot off the install disk and run disk utility to repair permissions (the repair options on the right side of the mentioned window, which are greyed out when in OS X). 3. I use a non-intel Mac so you'll have to get word from someone else. On my end I usually get 2-3 bounces before it opens, which is fine for me. The permission repair might aid this as well. You may also want to get something like MacJanitor to run some system maintenance scripts which can help grease the wheels of the system a bit. Keep us posted.

OS X automatically defragments any file under 20 megs upon being opened. When an installer is doing an "optimisation" it's not defragmenting, instead it's updating the prebindings; essentially it's looking at the code used to launch programmes and caching essential parts of it so the system doesn't have to keep looking it up.

Firefox is not optimised for Macs if you get it from Mozilla. Look for the Intel Mac optimised versions.

here's a decent link explaining a bit about OS X's defrag concerns.

I wish that article didn't call it disk optimisation because it makes it easy to confuse the optimisation done during an install with defragmenting.

Thanks guys, I got it working again. To Solve the bootcamp problem I found it in another thread here where all I had to do was go to System Preferences > Startup Disk > Click on the Mac HD > Restart.

Now I have another question about the battery update. I was read off the symptoms and i was a little confused with the last one.

"Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300."

So far, my cycle count was clocked at 32 with no problem(expect that it heats up), can one of you guys explain to me?

It means that if the battery is getting way less time than it should and it's cycled under 300 times then you have a problem.

Yea, i just called about this the other day. I thought my battery was a little low-ish on the time since I was only getting about 2.5-3 hours after 175 cycles (call me a whiner... ) According to the Apple Tech, that is normal, however should it drop drastically, something like 1 hour of battery life or less, then I would get a new free battery.

They do recommend that you 'calibrate' your battery. My understanding is that this allows the system to have a much clearer idea of when the battery is actually dead, and based on that can give you more accurate estimates to the remaining life.
