9750 Dead please help

Trying here as a last resort....

I've had my 9750 for almost a year and it just died on me yesterday. I was typing away on an email and the are under my left hand felt warmer than normal. I realized the fan wasn't running so I hit the Function - F2 combo to spool up the fan. There was an audible click and it rebooted. After rebooting it seemed to work fine at first but then the LCD started to blink off. The amount of time it stayed off and dark got progressivley longer. All this time I had the fan running at full speed just in case. I finished my email and shut it down. It's never come back.

When I try to power it up, the clock on the front lights up and the power light comes on... I can hear the cd/dvd come alive, but no graphics at all. No post graphics, no bios screen no nothing.

So my question is obviously if anyone has had something similar and if so what did it turn out to be?

If it is my graphics card (quadro GO 1400) where the heck could I get another one?

Same thing for the mobo for that matter?

Can parts be gotten from Clevo?

Yeah that would be nice.... But according to SAGER, Your warranty starts when they get the order not when you get your laptop.

I bought my SAGER 9750 less than one year ago thru PCTorque. I also bought and paid for the extended onsite warranty. But as we all know the extended warranty was thru a now defunct 3rd party (ATS). So not only did I shell out good money for an extended warranty that I don't have, SAGER and PCTORQUE could care less.

Now my laptop is dead and after talking to SAGER I'm shit outta luck. Evidently as far as SAGER is concerned your "FACTORY" warranty clock starts ticking when they get the order not when you get the laptop. I was flabergasted by that response and wanted to make sure I had understood correctly, so I asked the SAGER tech I was on the phone with again, "So your saying my 1 year factory warranty *doesn't* start the day I get the laptop?" to which he said, "Yes thats correct"

In my case there were all kinds of problems with the order processing at (the old) PCTorque and no one could give me a straight answer about whether or not it had even been registered with SAGER.

Then when that all got straightened out my 9750 was configured with a Quadro Go1400 which was on indefinate back order and that took another couple of weeks to come in before they could even start the build.

So here I am with a "high end" laptop that I paid hard earned cash money for including an extended onsite warranty for just this type of situation and its basically a doorstop.

On the bright side, the tech from SAGER did suggest rather helpfully that since I had no warranty anymore, go ahead and tear into it and maybe you'll find the problem!

this isn't the Alien 9750 it is the Sager 9750......anyways yeah I would research what GPU's work with the 9750 and see if you can get one cheap. (Also open up the notebook and look for obvious problems like leaking/blown capacitors)

clean out your cooling vents before you replace something.

I'm shocked that Sager gave you a difficult time being that it appears your order was delayed. I'm not sure I'd let that go so easily (although you may have given them an earful). Warranty starting the day the order is placed is insane. If you have the ATS as well you should get some extra consideration.

Maybe Charles can help you out. Despite the noise in this forum, you're one of the few people here that actually looks like you're getting screwed.

I'm trying to get a better video card myself for my 9750, what's in there right now is a 7800 GTX. If you're still looking for a video card PM me.

I'm experiencing the same problem that you are having. This morning I put my 9750 into standby and took it to work with me. When I got to work, I opened the lid but the display wouldn't turn on. I figured that Windows must have crashed, so I restarted the computer but the display would still not turn on.

I talked to one of Sager's techs over the phone, and he said the motherboard died and the cost to replace it will be around $500 (parts and labor, not including freight). If I keep turning the computer on, occasionally the display will light up and I'll get past either the POST screen or the Windows logo before the display turns itself off. The CD drive also seems to spin at random intervals, even though there is nothing in the drive.

Like you, my warranty is also expired, so now I am in the market for a new notebook. Very dissapointing, since the one I have is less than two years old. Just letting you know, I feel your pain.

That sucks chilled... I remember talking to you about icc profiles right after we both got our machines. My machine is still going strong, thank god. It would be devestating if it died on me now.

Maybe your machine never actually went into hibernation and over heated in the case? I used hibernation once and that happened so I never used it again.

Well, today I fired up my notebook to run some diagnostics and now it seems to be working. I don't understand what's going on, since yesterday I'm pretty sure the problem wasn't overheating. The condition you described happened to me before, so I always wait and make sure that the notebook is turned off before I transport it. In fact, the notebook was cool to the touch when I opened the lid. I hope it doesn't start crashing again when I turn it off.

To complicate my entire situation, yesterday I was using my G5 to search for a new notebook, and I ran a system update in the background. I was prompted to restart the computer, which I did, but the computer wouldn't reboot after that. Long story short, the guys at the local Genius Bar told me they need to replace the logic board and the video card... this wouldn't be so ridiculous except for the fact that this is the second time I've had to have those exact parts replaced.

So now I'm left with a shaky notebook and a broken G5 on the same frickin' day, man. lol...
