MT6707 and windows XP

Thread Starter
I've gotten a gateway 6707 and i'm trying to install windows xp on it to devest myself of vista and have my software actually work.
The problem is this.
I can get thru the initial seeing the hdd issue with the drivers I downloaded from intel, however once xp starts to actually install it tells me that I need in insert the disk into the A drive that contains the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver. the disk is still in the usb floppy drive and frankly I don't know what the hell is going on. I hit enter and it just sits there and doesn't seem to even acknowlage that the usb floppy is even there.
Gateway in their ususal helpfullness tells me that it's designed for vista so xp won't run on it which would seem about right for them but frankly their tech support sucks so...

Anyone know or have any idea wth I'm doing wrong?

I hate to agree with Gateway, but they are correct, I installed XP PRO, cuz I didn't like Vista, and , while I upgraded to Vista, I downloaded the Vista BIOS, now my XP install has incompatibility issues due to running it with a VISTA BIOS, I'm screwed, cuz I cannot go back to the old BIOS for XP, so, I 'm Suck with Vista....i tried to get the old XP BIOS back on my notebook, but, Gateway told me that, it's impossible to revert back to your old XP BIOS, cuz we no longer support XP, and that, I would have to purchase another motherboard form them if I wanted to FIX this problem with XP, I have a Quanta Motherboard with a ATI Express 1150/ and southbridge chipset, and they don't even have a website, so, that I can get my old XP BIOS back, and My warranty is still good untill NOV 2007 on my notebook, but, Gateway says, that I cannot use it cuz I upgraded with the Vista Gateway BIOS, so, now, they want to charge me $344 to replace my Motherboard, so that it will run XP, so, I'm SCREWED, now I'll just have to run Vista, and just get over it, nothing I can do, and Gateway wouldn't help me with this problem, due to NOT supporting XP anymore Shame on you Gateway!!!

Well if the MT6707 comes with Vista everything should work, Vista runs Great on my MX6447 notebook, but XP doesn't run well anymore...........at least like it use to? the time for XP is comming to an end Vista replaced XP and that's the way it is now

Did you find a work around? I just bought an MT6707 with the intent of putting XP Pro because the software I use is VERY unstable and buggy in VISTA. Do you need a USB floppy? the older download on the Gateway site says XP and Vista.

Please let me know ASAP!

The only workaround I found was installing XP and using the supplied Restore DVD that came w/ both my MX6447 & MX6453, both run XP MCE 2005 very well, but they shipped w/ XP MCE 2005, I have Vista Ultimate on my MX6453, and it runs great without any problems at all..........before you count-out Vista on your MT6707 try turning off System Restore & Indexing, that will speed things up a bit, also, you need at least 2GB of DDR 2 System Ram to really run Vista well, 1GB just won't cut it for Vista

I'm Sorry for the late response. Other projects on my plate as well

I have put together a download for all of you just wanting to install windows xp on your MT6707 to get rid of that pesky Vista crap they are trying to push on us. Here is a torrent download that is perfect and already set up with most all you need, with the exception of my drivers i've provided in my above post, to get your harddrive recognized. I'm still available for questions but i really never get the pleasure of joining you in conversations as i am currently modding a new Windows 7 patch (getting ready for when they push windows 7 on us and try and stop us from going back to our windows xp that we love and trust) i've also moved into the Mac world if anyone may have any questions about any issues they may be having with that. well, let me know if i can be of any further assistance and here is the link to the download.

I edited your post and removed the torrent link. Any chances to upload your file to something like mediafire?

Since i Guess Torrents are out of the Question and i only Use Rapidshare and ppl complained about that then i guess ppl who really want to fix this problem will contact me directly and i will help you in the same way that i did right here in this very Forum. And next time dont edit my post without first contacting me and giving me a chance to do it myself or you will ruin it for everyone who havent yet fixed this problem. i get around 30 emails a week and have had no complaints about my downloads yet. I've worked long and hard developing the full proof method of backwards compatibiliy for the dreaded "Vista-Only" crap they try and put us through. I am happy to share my knowledge but if you would like for me to post my findings on any media sharing websites i would be happy to if you purchase the subscription (1 month at least, i'm very busy and dont need to be held down by a 3 day subscription. Also sometimes i dont get online for days at a time while working on develping new methods and would hate to waste anybodies money or time.) If you pay for a subscription send me a direct email and let me know the user name and password and what you want added and then i will be sure to also add the links here for everyone to enjoy, so you wont only be helping yourself but may be helping others in you current situation. Thanks and sorry if i may have came off a little rude but i have alot on my plate and i'm doing what i can. Thanks and have a nice day. Your Favorite Tech Guy Josh

I appreciate your effort of helping out forum members with your sharing.

Don't take too hard on yourself to have to pay for any hosting. I suggested Mediafire, because it is free.

And we reserve the right here at NBF to edit/delete posts at our discretion without giving notice.

I understand that

I understand that but when someone is helping with something that not very many ppl are able to help with it's customary to give the poster the opportunity to edit there own posts. I go out of my way to help and then my posts are edited. I expect to at least be notified so i can edit my post with a new form of download and i wasn't given that opportunity. so from now on if ppl would like for me to keep helping i only ask to be notified to be able to edit my own posts. I reserve the right to make that request. So if anyone would like a resolution to this problem just email me directly and i will be happy to help in any way i can. Thanks for your concideration and hope my knowledge has helped many. Mrflorida5556@hotmail.com Your Favorite Tech Guy Josh
