Hello everybody!

I have bought an Acer Notebook Aspire 5580. I reinstalled with Windows XP SP2. But the Windows always show Found new hardware: Modem Device On High Definition Audio Bus. I don't know it's driver. Even I searched the driver on Google but I still didn't see.

Help me please !!!

Tried the drivers here?
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/noteboo...re_5580/driver

My guess is the Modem driver, or possibly the Audio driver

Thanks Evaders99, I downloaded and installed all of drivers on that host but it don't have that driver.
anyway, thanks a lot.

It should be part of Agere modem driver install. Just point it to the modem driver location when it asks for the driver. Agere modem is part or aware of "Azalia" (HD Audio in Intel chipset). Make sure also that when you installed Realtek sound driver it also installed MS HD Audio update/patch.

I Done sucessfully. Thank you very much. Maybe I should show my exp for newbies . I had to add directly from Modem (folder or driver) and chose *inf file. After that, the device was installed automatically.
If you run install file from folder Modem, it's not found.

Thanks a lot.

Would you please show me the step-by-step how you did this? I struggle with this for the last two days. I download the zip file from Acer, but it does not have the .inf file, it's only an exe file. Please help a newbie. I can't even find the modem folder in my 5570z, does it even come with a modem? Other than that, the laptop is working fine with xp pro sp2.

If you downloaded "Modem Driver 2.1.63.0.zip" and unpacked it, there should be AGRMDwxp.inf file. It is possible that you have settings for Explorer that hide system files (*.inf are considered "system" files).

Right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Manage". Navigate to "Device Manager." Look for devices in the tree with yellow triangle and exclamation mark. Double-click on such device (or right-click and select Properties). Click on Driver tab and "Update Driver" button there. Select "No, not this time" in the popup wizard if it asks to search for driver on Windows Update. Click Next. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", click Next. Select "Don't search", Next. Click "Have Disk", "Browse", navigate to the directory where you unpacked modem driver. Select any INF file there (specific file does not matter, only directory). You'll return to the dialog with the list of matching devices that were found in INF files in that directory. Select the closest matching one (there shoud be only one in your case) and click Next.

There are variations on this but generally that's the way I do it in rare cases. Typically when I have non-WHQL driver without it's own installer - manual install with override is the only way then.

Thank you for your help. However, I still not having any luck after I follow your step by step direction. I downloaded the zip file and unzipped. It does include the AGRMDwxp.inf (53kb), then I folllow your instructions. But at the end, I got "Cannot Install this Hardware" The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software. Any other suggestions. Thanks.

While in Device Manager, double-click on unknown device and switch to Details tab in properties dialog. What values do you have as Device instance id and Hardware Ids? (selectable from drop-down box).

Device instance ID = HDAUDIO\\FUNC_02&VEN_11C1&DEV_1040&SUBSYS_10250110&REV_1002\\4&37C55033&0&0101 Hardware ID = HDAUDIO\\FUNC_02&VEN_11C1&DEV_1040&SUBSYS_10250110&REV_1002 HDAUDIO\\FUNC_02&VE N_11C1&DEV_1040&SUBSYS_10250110 There are two values in the hardware ID, I don't why. Thanks much.

These are the correct ones. The driver that you downloaded from Acer matches perfectly. If you check INF file you'll see
HDAUDIO\\FUNC_02&VEN_11C1&DEV_3026&SUBSYS_10250110
in it.

That error only appears when you downgrade Vista to XP, your modem needs Vista drivers, try to get Vista drivers and install them to your XP. Sometimes it works if not then you will need to reinstall Vista. Good Luck!

it worked for me, though i am still a bit annoyed about having to do it all manual, in my case it is a fujitsu siemens notebook. the message you get is strange though, if you do it entirely manually i dont think it can say that if failed because he couldnt find the right software. last time i checked it just says it might not work as he cannot conferm if its the right one if you do it manually. considering you classify yourself as a newby i have to ask. did you use the option that you select a directory where he should look for the driver in, or did you really sellect the driver yourself? well anyway, thanks for this thread it helped me alot as my boss was nagging me on why it was taking so long.

I know reply for this question: Simple you must not to check: "Best drivers(...), but 'Select': "Not find, I choose manually driver to install", then 'Select' in "Next" windows: 'Modem', -> "Next", and choose .inf file in Vista/XP CD-ROM Producent's Drivers three list. Press OK, when 'Select', and install now. This solution is for all vendor name devices list for all laptop's marks.

IP address is different. Hard to say. It was more like a copy and paste post.

Let us see if the poster comes back for more info.

cheers ...
