The main reason is that until these past two posters (giro and JMeluccci), all who posted to this thread that had installed A05 reported their ports being there.
Now that there are other reports of missing ports under A05, it may not be a hardware thing, but why then are there two outcomes for the same platform with the same BIOS? Are there some subtle hardware differences on the latest 8600s that are the culprit here? Maybe the older 8600s are fine with A05.
My problem with the laptop being unresponsive for some period after flashing I believe is thermal. The time I had to wait 25 minutes after the flash for it to revive was after the lappy had been on for some hours. Once it cooled it came back. Then I instantly flashed again, and it was only about 5 minutes for it to regain consiousness.
The bottom line is that for me there are a confluence of issues. The port issue is probably a combination of hardware and the BIOS image (since some still have their ports in A05). The lobotomy mine gets each time I believe is something else.
I'm sure this will all get sorted out over time. My concern is not about how mine works today under A04 (it is great). My concern is that there may be future BIOSs that I need to resolve stability issues for hardware/software that I may acquire.
