Hello.
Hopefully somebody with this laptop can clear up some issues with it.
I got this machine in a hurry when my previous laptop sort of gave up and I'm still not comfortable with its hardware setup.
I had major problems with it when it was busy doing processor-intensive work and writing on the disk at the same time. Never had these problems with my older Acer laptop (single 120GB ATA disk at 7200RPM).
The machine has two similar 120GB WD SATA disks (at 5400RPM). They seem to be attached to the RAID connector but operate as two distinct disks. That's the way I want them so no problem there.
I'm having a problem identifying the drive capabilities with any utilities.
I've tried many of them (HwINFO, Sandra and a few others) and they all give conflicting information.
Presumably the two drives support different DMA levels but the active level is the same on both drives, one supports SMART and the other doesn't, their write-back cache is there but disabled and a bunch of other discrepancies.
The BIOS and RAID setup are worse than useless as is usual with most laptops.
So, are there any tools that can really identify the hardware setup on this machine?
Are there any tools that I can use to setup the drive's capabilities since the BIOS doesn't let me?
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
