Sager 9750 battery problems

Hi all,

Just though I would post here and get some comments suggestions.

I noticed some odd behaviour out of the battery in my 9750 recently. I unplugged it from the AC adapter and noticed it shutdown immediately. Plugged it back in and powered it back on. Noticed there was zero battery power.

It didnt appear to be charging so I removed and reseated it. That worked and it began to charge again. It was very slow though.... taking about 2 mins for 1% battery near the end (Not sure if this is normal or not)

I figured I would plug it out and run on battery for awhile to see if there was anything funky going on. Was running away fine.... got to about 50% and then suddenly dropped to 6% and low battery alarm started sounding.

I plugged it back in and it began charging again. It charged to 100% yet still said it was charging. After an hour or two this went away and it registered as 100% charged and running on AC. Powered it down for the night. Booted back up in the morning at the situation was the same... great I thought... seems ok.

I was working away and it randomly decided to start charging again despite saying it was at 100%. The icon was flicking back and forth between charging and not charging every so often. Unplugged it and ran on battery agaiin.... it hit around 65% and dropped to 6% or so again.

I plugged it back in and it has been plugged in since but refuses to charge to anything over 79%...... I doubt its actually 79% charged though.

The battery is only just a year old. I do use my laptop on AC the vast majority of the time though so I figure ive just worn it out that way. Its no big deal really as I run on AC most of the time anyway and the battery still gives me around an hour. What im wondering is, as it seems to be charging constantly is it dangerous.... i.e. could the battery overload?

Also considering its only charing to a certain point... could one of the cells be gone? Shoud I remove it?

sounds like something's flaky. mine charges occasionally while on ac.
1 hour sounds about right. it's a good idea to run on battery once in a while to run it down all the way and recharge. i keep a spare battery.
if you're still under warranty you may want to have them check it out. at least get a spare battery. it will wear out before the computer does.

Hi, sorry for resurrecting an old thread but recently my 9750 developed exactly the same problem. The battery seems to be charging very slowly and when I disconnect the power coord it almost immediately thinks it is out of juice, beeps and shuts down. Then when I power it up it shows 0% juice left in battery and starts charging it again at abysmally slow rate.

Just be lucky if it charges at all. Those batteries will only charge and discharge so many times. If you rarely use it on battery, then it is most likely the power connection to the Mother Board which can't really be fixed unless the MB is replaced.

The laptop works just fine when power supply is connected, so it is either the charging circuit or the battery. I was hardly ever using it on battery - this is my portable workstation and the battery is more of an UPS. Maybe I should buy another battery ($130) on ebay and try it out.

A slightly battery from eBay solved the problem. Charged and works.
Seems strange that the original battery laster only 1.5 years and it was hardly ever used. I think the heat is killing the batteries.

On my 9860 the orriginal battery lasted only 14 months but I think it was partly my fault for not discharging it like I should have on a normal basis because once a week I'll dicharge the battery to almost 10% "mostly 20% is where I reapply wall power" & my second battery has lasted nearly 2 years & still going strong.

I have my power options set to give me a warning at 20% & shut down the machine at 10%.
