I have an external HD To store all my work on. I need to make it accessable over MY wireless network so I don't have to take it everywhere I take my laptop. Is there any way I can do it without having the drive attached directly to a computer?

Buy an ethernet/network enclosure for the hdd and hook it up to the router.

or get a NAS, since you already have an external hard drive. You can also hook up at least two external drives to the NAS.
