I'm considering buying my first laptop from sager (http://www.pctorque.com). The system I'm looking at would be the 5660 series. On PCTorque's site, I could get the following configuration for about $2064. Please let me know if I'm out of my mind for considering this purchase money-wise. Otherwise, is the price right for the outstanding components included? I'm configuring it with P4 2.4GHz, 1024MB PC2100 DDR ram, 40 GB 5400rpm HDD, and the UXGA 1600X1200 screen. Is this a reasonable price for the additions I want? Also, is the UXGA screen much better than the XGA (1400X1050) resolution?

Yes, that's a good deal. You will be hard pressed to find a better one out there for the same equipment (5660) or equivalent laptop.
We have already covered the UXGA vs. SXGA topic before (see other posts) however the bottom line is that you should go to a computer reseller and compare the resolutions for yourself in real life. Its the only way you can make a decision.
Just make sure that the laptops are running in their native and respective resolutions...
good luck with your purchase!

I just bought a Sager NP5660-C from Powernotebooks.com and coulda bought the same dang thing from pctorque.com for $91 less. The only advantage to going through powernotebooks.com is I get a bundle of free software, some of which I might actually use, and I get a free standard case. pctorque charges between $15 and $89 for cases, so I guess I can say I paid $76 for the software bundle. oh brother I hope I find that software useful or powernotebooks.com is somehow superior in customer service or something.

Lol, I don't know... the fact that pctorque is hosting these forums (and without bias no less) kinda tells you about how much they care about the product. I don't think you'll get any better support. So far as I've heard, both are great places. But I got sold on pctorque when I saw their prices. They even lowered something for me when I found the price lower somewhere else. I don't think you can get a better deal anywhere else (I've spent a month constantly searching and I have yet to find one, lol). I haven't bought a sager yet, but when I do, rest assured it will be from pctorque. I don't mean to sound overly commercial-like. I just like seeing people's opinions, so I figured I'd put out what I like to find.

PCTorque vs. Powernotebooks
I checked on www.resellerratings.com and compared PCTorque and Powernotebooks. Both are rated very high. Powernotebooks has like 358 reviews and is still rated nearly perfect. PCTorque has only 17 reviews but is rated a perfect 10. PCTorque doesn't have the same track record yet it seems, but both look very good. Powernotebooks claims to be Sager's largest dealer in the US. Service so far for me from Powernotebooks has been top notch and I must admit that I have tested it fully because I had to be walked through the PayPal process for the first time and I needed much guidance. Plus they are expediting the order for me. Powernotebooks would not match PCTorque's price, "Whenthey match our service after the sale, we will match their price."
They also will not ship until the eCheck clears, even though I was willing to guarantee payment via credit card if there were any problem with the eCheck. They are not set up to allow credit card guarantees, so if you want to take advantage of their lower cash price, it is likely to delay delivery. I didn't see any option on PCTorque for PayPal. They might do PayPal too. Right now I am hoping my eCheck clears tomorrow so they can ship tomorrow and I will have my new laptop on Tuesday. Oh yeah, when you pay by eCheck, Powernotebooks will only ship to the registered address. You can't register an address with PayPal unless such address is a billing address for one of your credit cards. Thus, I could only get the computer shipped to my home address, which is a hassle making sure someone is there for the UPS guy. I wanted to ship it to my work address, but could only do so for some payment method other than PayPal. I don't really understand that limitation. I know a credit card processing guy who could help set them up to accept credit card guarantees, but they do not appear to have any interest in doing that. They were very patient with all my inquiries on all these issues.

I'm not aware of Powernotebooks purchasing a notebook from us for them to know either way

I'll tell you this though... we've answered a lot of questions for people that have bought from Powernotebooks.
I would like to add, Powernotebooks is a great place to buy from I hear and people are welcome to buy from whomever they wish. You'll love your Sager either way!

the guys at powernotebooks actually put my order through before they received my wire transfer. They were going to ship it before they received a dime from me. But I was one of the first people who ordered the 5660 and they ran out of stock on the UXGA screens so it happened that they got the payment before they shipped out by chance.
They are very trusting people and I think that speaks about how trustworthy they are. From everything I have heard and seen, PCTorque seems to be a clone of powernotebooks in terms of service, both pre and post sale.
If only more companies would adopt this solid set of business guidelines!!

Re: PCTorque vs. Powernotebooks
I ordered from an 8600 fully loaded from Adam (PC-Torque) and I was amazed by his prompt and courteous service (for such a small profit margin).I HIGHLY recommend PC-Torque to all who want a Sager (or any other computer system he happens to sell/support).
Regards,
Shane
P.S If Powernotebooks is going to match PC-Torque on price AFTER PC-Torque matches their service, it is time for them to do so!

I bought my 8886 at powernotebooks.com mostly b/c of the resellerratings.com ranking. Donald was also very forthright and fast in answering my questions. I can't think of a time I've had less buyer's remorse on a piece of technology than w/ this lappy.
PCTORQUE (who I thank for making these forums) sounds like he has a slightly better price (really insignificant on the 8886). All I know is that my 8886 came w/ all software and drivers pre-installed and have had absolutely zero problems. I also got that Toshiba 2 GB HD PCMCIA card (Adam, you should offer that too!). I also noticed that some of the prices on perifpherals/accessories for the 8886 were better on powernotebooks.com. So, if you are lloading up a rocketship like I did, it may behove you to go there. However, my impression is that PCTORQUE will win the price battle in a more spartan lappy.
Also, powernotebooks.com makes it clear on their website that they are Christians. This may offend some people, but I'd always perfer to do business w/ fellow believers (particularly those willing to step out on a limb and say they are) if the option is available and competitive.
One last thing--I find myself making every major gear-type puchase online these days due to the enourmous resources available to review vendors. Bizrate.com and resellerratings.com are both great resources. I like being able to hear horror stories before I put my money down. I feel like I go into every deal w/ a really good idea of what I can expect from the company w/ whom I'm doing biz.

To be quite honest, both resellers are excellent. PCTorque put up these forums and I visit them faithfully every day just because I love the whole prospect of a sager :-) Of course, I don't have one yet, lol, but whatever. An identically built top of the line 8886 with a car adaptor and case from PCTorque is about $2541 with next day shipping if you pay cash and is about $2630 from powernotebooks if you pay cash with next day shipping. In my opinion, a software package is not worth that much money, especially considering it's mostly shareware or trials that I wouldn't use anyway. It just depends on the person. This is all without the operating system, but even with it powernotebooks charges $7 more to install it, etc. In any case, Sager does all of this stuff at their place, not the reseller. If you want someone who advertises their religion in order to provide proof of ethics, that's great too. But PCTorque is providing tech support for anyone who owns a sager, regardless of where it was purchased from, by having the forums up. Both resellers are obviously passionate about what they do, and I think that's just the best thing ever. In all honesty, I don't think it "behooves" anyone to go either way with these to resellers. You'd get great satisfaction from each based on what I've seen.
