Acer Aspire 5100 and Vista ... Want 2 drop 2 XP

I have been looking and looking, even on the Acer support site. But the drivers for the modem in the 5100 do not work at all with Windows XP. I do not want Vista on this laptop. I can install everything else, but the modem seems dead in the water. XP will not recognize it at all. AND every driver set that I throw at it doesn't work. It shows up in hardware control as a yellow flagged PCI device. How do I get tis modem to be seen by XP and what drivers DO work??? I have been at this for 3 days now. The XP install that I am using is the 32 bit version/XP home edition SP2. I tried XP Pro SP1 at 1st with no luck either.

Acer Aspire 5100
AMD Turion 64 2.0

If you haven't already, jot-down what your modem is (you didn't say what your modem was) , if you can find the manufactures of your modem's website, they may have drivers for XP

I have had the same problem. it occurs because the modem hangs off the Realtek High definition sound bus. If the driver for that is missing then the computer cannot see the modem. I got over it by running windows update (custom) and selecting the device drivers that were available. Then I ran the modem update. it worked for me.
