Geforce go 8800GTX SLI as option in Dreambook D90??

Thread Starter
I was just surfing around and saw recent news on the Pioneer Dreambook D90, so I looked on the site and saw very weirdly that it's claiming the Geforce go 8800GTX in SLI and even has it on the D90's configurator page:

http://www.pioneercomputers.com.au/p...&c2=15&id=2218

I'm not really believing this without more creditbility (especially since it's saying SLI), but just thought it was relevant since they're already taking orders for these. Can't they get in trouble for this?

Could also just be a realllllly early pre order. Theres no way a clevo knockoff would get a high end part like that before Dell or Alienware.

they say end of may i wonder if its true, anyone send them an email to ask what the *&!* they are doing having semi pornogrphic material on there site

SLI8800 / Raid 5 3x100GB 7200 rpm / 4gb ram / 1920x1680 / small nuclear powerstation built in WoW

I sent a sales request & a request for the specs on the 8800 cards they are offering on this machine. I am looking forward to this answer lol.

"well the laptop case is 6" thick so we managed to slide in two 8800 desktop cards!"
wow with the base model of that computer you get, 2x7950 GTX, 1.8 Ghz, 512 RAM, no operating system, 1 40 GB hard drive, no wireless card, a dvd burner and a carrying case all for the bargain price of $3697 US (I assume the price given is Australian dollars).

Yah, anything other than GPUs seems like garbage.
Although you can max it out to a Core 2 EE X6800 @ 2.93 GHz, and three 160GB hard disks configured as RAID 5! It says.

Another wierd thing, on Pioneer Dreambook D90 and the entire first page of hits is to the Ferret, Australia site. Isn't Pioneer Japanese, (the trading name for Matsushita IIRC). Or is that name just a coincidence?

they aren't the desktop cards it says Go so apparently they're advertising a Go 8800 GTX as a part even before nvidia does. Seems like BS to me

"Coming soon – The GeForce 8M Series for enthusiast will be released in the summer of 2007!" - Nvidia

I think they are 2 different companies.

Pioneer Computers & Pioneer Electronics are 2 different companies.

The sheer fact that the cards report having 512MB of memory is suspect enough. I highly doubt after all the hubbub regarding the "320/384-bit memory controller" hubbub they'd be using a 256-bit bus.

Well I tried not to choke on me own tears mate!

Here is the "OFFICIAL" reply to my inquiry

Good Morning Bill

Thank you for your enquiry. Video cards in notebooks are confusing. While they are based on the desktop chips of the same number, the notebook ones generally have Go in front of the number and are not necessarily identical to the desktop versions, driverwise or amount of ram onboard, however they are based on the same chipset. Instruction wise, eg Direct X 10, is the same. Manufacturers rarely have specific details or drivers for the notebook ones on their web site, so it is hard to get much information easily. The attached press release from Nvidia is the only information I have available, however I have requested our notebook manufacturer to provide detailed specifications.

I expect a reply within 24 hrs, so will email you as soon as I get something, but be sure it will be a Go 8800 series card with at least 768MB of RAM. The cards are internal, with heatsink / fan designed into the cards specifically for notebook use. They plug into the motherboard. I have attached a photo of them, together with a photo of the hard drive layout.

So far as colour, subject to availability, we will be going with the gunmetal grey/black rather than the blue on our web site... example attached.

<ORegarding stock, they are due to arrive at the end of the month at the latest as we have a special arrangement with nNidia and will have them before anyone else knows, however, we are in the hands of the overseas factory and it could extend a week or two. Again, I will keep you informed as we will have an update on the ETA by Wednesday this week.
<O
So far as ordering, if you wish to reserve one, let me know. We don't require full payment up front, just a deposit of $1,500- to confirm your order with the balance not payable until it is ready to ship. I monitor orders and let you know when to pay the balance. At the risk of sounding like a pushy salesperson, which I am not, the first shipment will go fairly quickly. It would be best to order one in the next week or so if you need it sooner rather than later]

And check out that price, whooo! They could have a DX12 4ghz video card in there for all I care, but I won't be buying it at that price .

A lot closer, since the USD has devalued so much ... 4,000 Australian Dollar = 3,293.44 US Dollar

Not too bad then... considering it's housing 2 high end cards.

****edit: Forget what I said. Decent configuration with new cards comes to around 6k + (Aust. $)

it's called photoshop. a 10 y/o can do it. You notice no DVI/HDMI? Just the 15 pin VGA
